Due to the NHL Dispersal Draft in 1991 , Zettler had to switch to the San Jose Sharks . In the following three seasons Zettler developed into a permanent fixture in the defensive association of the newly created team, but was given in the course of the 1993/94 season in exchange for Vyachelsaw Buzayev to the Philadelphia Flyers . Zettler played there until the end of the 1995/96 season . This was followed by the transfer to the Toronto Maple Leafs in his Canadian homeland, where he played until 1998. He was then selected by the Nashville Predators in the 1998 NHL Expansion Draft . After only one season there, he signed a free agent contract with the Washington Capitals , where he played under head coach Ron Wilson . After Zettler had been absent for a long time in the 1999/00 season due to a head injury, he could no longer build on his previous performances and often played in the American Hockey League with the Portland Pirates , the Capitals' farm team , in the following years .
