Ryūji Umeda ( Japanese 梅田 竜 二 , Umeda Ryūji ; born October 22, 1968 in Tokyo Prefecture ), often also Ryuuji Umeda , is a professional Japanese carom player and world champion.

Career

After Nobuaki Kobayashi Umeda is one of the most successful Japanese billiards players in three cushion . At the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1998 he won silver and then gold in Doha in 2006 . A year later he became world champion in the individual competition in Cuenca , Ecuador . In the final Umeda defeated Daniel Sánchez from Spain with 3: 2 (6:15, 15 : 9, 4:15, 15 : 7, 15 : 12). He was the second Japanese individual world champion after Kobayashi (1974 & 1984) after 23 years.

Umeda owns one of the largest billiards centers in Tokyo and was the organizer of the 2012 Women's Three Cushion World Championship .

In March 2013 he won the 8th Yamani Cup in Tokyo with 14  match points , ahead of Daniel Sánchez (2nd place, 13 points) and Torbjörn Blomdahl (3rd place, 12 points). At the 4th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in July he won the gold medal in the final against the Vietnamese Nguyễn Quốc Nguyện with a 40:39 victory. Also made the highest streak in three cushion of 9 in the Games.
