It can always be worse! (Original title: What's the Worst That Could Happen? ) Is an American comedy film from 2001 . The film was directed by Sam Weisman and the screenplay was written by Matthew Chapman based on a novel by Donald E. Westlake . The main roles were played by Martin Lawrence and Danny DeVito .
action
The thief Kevin Caffery ( Martin Lawrence ) steals a painting that belongs to Amber Belhaven. He later brings the painting back and thereby wins her sympathy. Belhaven gives Caffery her father's ring.
Caffery and his friend Berger break into the entrepreneur Max Fairbanks ( Danny DeVito ) a little later . He was supposed to take care of his financial affairs during this time, instead he is having fun in his house with a young woman. Fairbanks alerts the police and Caffery is arrested. When police search Caffery and find Belhaven's ring on him, Fairbanks credibly claims the ring is his property, and the police give him the ring.
Caffery tries to get the ring back. He and Berger break into Fairbanks' home in Washington, DC . There they steal the money that Fairbanks wanted to use to bribe some politicians. While Caffery and Berger are still in the apartment, Fairbanks comes home and there is a fight between Caffery and Fairbanks. However, as it later turns out, the ring that Caffery Fairbanks takes is not the one that Caffery received from Belhaven.
Amber wins the ring back by impersonating a masseuse and gaining access to Fairbanks. The last scene shows Caffery playing a lawyer and helping Fairbanks deal with the politicians. He steals his watch for fun.
