The Schwarzwald-Querweg Schwarzwald – Kaiserstuhl – Rhein is an east-west multi-day hiking route through the Black Forest from Donaueschingen to Breisach . The 109-kilometer hiking trail is maintained and looked after by the Black Forest Association.

Brief description

The Black Forest – Kaiserstuhl – Rhine crossing begins in Donaueschingen. The path leads through the Bregtal up to the Danube-Rhine watershed . By Simon forests valley and the Elztal the path reaches the Rhine Valley and the Kaiserstuhl . It ends in Breisach am Rhein. The entire route is very well signposted and marked, so that you do not need to take maps or directions with you on a hike.

The Brigach in Donaueschingen

From the starting point at Donaueschingen train station, the path goes past the district defense office and then left first along the Brigach , which is crossed on a wooden bridge at the Sankt-Marien-Kirche. The hike runs along the edge of the forest to the Aufen district and then on to Wolterdingen. In Wolterdingen the path turns right at the church; the place is left again via Emil-Hauger-Straße. After leaving the village, pass the Obere Weiher on the right of the path and then for about a kilometer parallel to the main road on the paved path to Tannheim. Tannheim is crossed. The path then leads past a sawmill with a striking chimney to the hospital courtyards and then through the forest to Herzogenweiler. Herzogenweiler is only briefly touched and left again via Jägerhausallee. At its end the path turns right. It goes straight ahead and at a radio converter turn right on the line path to the forest car park Schuhbartle. There the district road 5734 is crossed. Via the Alte Herzogenweiler Straße it goes on asphalt along the county road and then away from the asphalt path that turns half right, straight ahead still along the road on a grass path to the Schlossermatte. In a curve it goes uphill to the right and then straight over the Ochsenberg and further downhill again to the Sankt-Michaels-Kapelle, where there is a barbecue area. The hike leads along a road to the stage destination in Vöhrenbach.

Directions

Pond gorge

The path reaches Vöhrenbach via Krankenhausstrasse and turns left at the Sankt-Martins-Kirche. The Breg is crossed at the Kirchwegbrückle. From Vöhrenbach the path leads through the Bregtal past some Black Forest houses via Schönenbach to Furtwangen. In Furtwangen, the hiking route runs parallel to the bypass road ( Martin-Schmitt- Strasse). From the intersection at the student dormitory, Querweg and Mittelweg run for around 500 meters on the same route. After crossing the Black Forest High Road, the hike goes under a ski lift and then uphill through the forest. From the intersection at the Staatsberghof, Westweg and Querweg run on the same route. The Neueck with the Hirschen and Neueck inns is about 400 meters away. The old route of the cross way still ran past here. After the crossroads, take the Westweg to the highest point of the crossroad ( 1045  m ). Here the Westweg and Querweg separate. The cross path goes downhill to the left. Soon afterwards, at an intersection, you will find a road called Kohlhäusleweg. In the Kohltal, the asphalt path continues to Gütenbach. After the last house on the main road, the path leads left into the pond gorge and then steeply downhill along the stream, where it meets the Zweälersteig there, then continues until it becomes flatter and wider in front of the Pfaffenmühle. After crossing the stream at Vitenhof, the route initially goes uphill along a meadow and then past Luxenhof and Haldenhof to Gasthof Engel in Obersimonswald.

Third stage: Obersimonswald Engel - Denzlingen

Directions

After the Gasthof Engel, the hiking trail follows the Wild Gutach ; The Obertalstrasse is crossed at the Stegenbrücke and the stream is crossed at the Häuslerain. Through the Altsimonswald and Untersimonswald, the route continues to Bleibach, which is only touched on the outskirts. Leave the valley of the Wild Gutach at the weir at the stadium. The route continues to Gutach and from there along the Elz to Kollnau. Waldkirch can be reached via the Max-Barth -Weg. At the train station the path crosses with the Kandelhöhenweg . Then it continues along the Elz to the road to Emmendingen . There the path crosses the Elz on the road bridge and continues on the Elzdamm. Past Buchholz, the route continues over the Mauracher Hof up to the Mauracher Berg with the ruins of the Severinskapelle. The hike then leads along the ridge and over steps to Denzlingen.

Fourth stage: Denzlingen - Oberrotweil

Directions

The path leaves Denzlingen via Robert-Bosch-Straße and continues between Aussiedlerhöfe to the edge of the forest. There the path turns left, later it crosses the main road and after a piece of forest also the Autobahn 5 . About 15 minutes later you reach Nimburg. The path then runs on a road and crosses the Dreisam and the Kaiserstuhlbahn before Eichstetten . After Eichstetten the path leads through vineyards and later through deciduous forest up to the Katharinenberg with the St. Katharina chapel. This is followed by a varied path through forest and vineyards down to Oberrotweil.

Fifth stage: Oberrotweil - Breisach

Directions

You leave Oberrotweil through Ellenbuchstrasse. Shortly before Achkarren the hike turns sharp left into a ravine . After Achkarren the path leads along the track of the Kaiserstuhlbahn . Breisach is reached at the central winery of Badischer Winzergenossenschaften, where the route ends at the train station.
