Sebastian Grimus (born November 27, 1970 in Hollabrunn , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian saxophonist and composer specializing in funk , pop , electro and house . He lives as a freelance saxophonist in Vienna .

Live and act

Grimus completed a saxophone degree at the Vienna Jazz Conservatory . He was strongly inspired by his time in the USA , where he studied at Berklee College of Music ( Boston ) and worked with national and international greats. There he was shaped above all by the intensive collaboration with the legend Little Joe Cook, an R&B singer who once had a top 20 hit on the Billboard charts in the 1950s , the Peanuts song - and thus under "Peanut Man" got known. During this time Grimus took lessons from saxophonists such as Fred Lipsius ( Blood, Sweat & Tears ), Lenny Pickett ( Tower of Power ), Brandon Fields ( Dave Weckl Band ) and Eric Marienthal (Chick Corea Elektric Band).

Since Grimus expanded his instruments over the years to include soprano saxophone , alto saxophone , tenor saxophone , baritone saxophone , EWI saxophone, flute , piccolo , flute , clarinet and bass clarinet , he was also hired to work in orchestras and for larger productions. In addition to his solo project Grimusic, Grimus has been involved in numerous stage, TV and studio productions.

Grimus took part in the Jazzfest Havanna together with the band of Iris Camaa and performed at the Coachella Festival 2016 with the Austrian producer and DJ Parov Stelar .

He started producing his own songs in 2018 under the name 7YFN (Seven Years from Now); He had the idea for this solo project back in 2011. In 2019 he released his first single Sign .

In the summer of 2019, 8 weeks ago, Sign was number 1 in the Superfly Radio Charts in Austria. In October, the release of the second track, Walk Tall , followed, which Grimus composed and produced for his son.

Sebastian Grimus is married and has one son.

Bands

Currently (as of 2018) Sebastian Grimus plays saxophonist with Parov Stelar. He is the saxophonist of the Hot Pants Road Club and plays in the bands The Bad Powells and Live Spirits . His own music under the band name Grimusic is played in smaller clubs. The 2S (a) xes project, in which he interprets a wide variety of classics with saxophonist Barbara Paierl, is booked by the Austrian event scene.

He has worked with Wolfgang Ambros , Boris Bukowski , Andy Baum , Dorretta Carter , Emma Lanford , Dennis Jale , Buddy Johnson , Stella Jones , Hansi Lang , Andy Lee Lang , Mo , Sandra Pires , TC Pfeiler , Raphael Wressnig , and in numerous TV shows and musicals.
