Life

Sergio Rubino graduated from the Art Academy in Sorrento and taught art education in Anacapri for five years . Then he devoted himself entirely to painting and sculpting, which he had done since childhood. The success of his numerous painting and sculpture exhibitions aroused the interest of international journalists and critics. Over 350 articles report on his works. Pope John Paul II received a ceramic plate made by Rubino as a gift from the Campania region .

In 1979 he was commissioned by the municipality of Anacapri to decorate the Piazza Diaz in front of the Santa Sofia church with its ceramic benches . He restored the 16th century wooden Christ sculpture from the Church of Santa Sofia in Anacapri, which is now on the main altar.

1982, 1983, 1984 he was vice-president of the events "Questioni delle Arti" (Stage Arte Visive), in which the following artists took part: Enrico Baj , Achille Bonito Oliva , Andrea Cascella , Nino Caruso , Gillo Dorfles , Gianni Pisani, Arnaldo Pomodoro , Toti Scialoja , Joe Tilson , Pasquale Vincitorio and Betty Woodman .

In 1985 he organized the Art in Action event in collaboration with Marco Balzano, Francesco Lauria, Pino Simonetti. Also in 1985 he was interviewed by Sergio Lambiase (report by the Rai , subject: The craft - based on Sergio Rubino's works ).

In 1991 Sergio Rubino opened on Lexington Ave. from Manhattan with his family a studio with continuous exhibition, Sergio Rubino di Capri LTD Artistic Ceramics . He then founded Rubino's Art Village , a center for art, in Jeffersonville , New York , in 1993 .

In 1993 Rubino won an almost two-year tender from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York . Eight of his oversized vases now surround the Renaissance fountain from 1470 by the Da Maiano brothers in the Robert Lehman Foundation.

Sergio Rubino has kept his residence in Anacapri. In his workshop in Via Catena and in his studio in Jeffersonville, he and his sons Michelangelo and Raffaello created the work Capri in miniatura in 1995/1996 , the island of Capri out of ceramic and limestone in small format (approx. 15 × 8 m).

On June 2, 1996 Sergio Rubino was awarded the title of Commendatore by the President of the Republic of Italy, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro , for his national and international services .

His biography Sergio Rubino - la ceramica, l'isola, il mondo was published by the journalist Anna Maria Siena Chianese.

For the redesign of the theater facade and the theater square in the city of Aschaffenburg , Germany, Rubino realized sketches at the request of the «Interest Group Theaterplatz Aschaffenburg», which were presented to the city administration as a project draft. On behalf of the tourist office of the island of Capri, he has created over 200 ceramic books and paintings that provide information about the flora, fauna and history of the island. This Ecomuseum can be visited on the way from the lighthouse to the Blue Grotto - along the Sentiero dei Fortini .

For the SanGimignano1300 Museum , which was planned and realized by his sons, Sergio Rubino made sculptures together with the sculptor Maria Dirsch in Federico.
