Shep E. Gordon (born October 18, 1945 in Jackson Heights , Queens , New York ) is an American music manager , artist agent and film producer .

biography

Gordon was born in Jackson Heights, a neighborhood in the New York borough of Queens, in 1945. In 1968 he earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Buffalo . In Los Angeles , he took a job as a probation officer .

Music manager

After getting to know the band Alice Cooper in 1968, he began managing it with his partner Joe Greenberg. In 1969, Gordon co-founded the Alive Enterprises agency.

Gordon was Sammy Hagar's partner at the Cabo Wabo Cantina nightclub and restaurant . He supported Willie Nelson in the creation of the "Old Whiskey River Bourbon".

In 1993, Gordon founded Alive Culinary Resources, the premier agency dedicated to chefs. The chefs supervised by the agency include Celestino Drago, Charlie Trotter, Daniel Boulud, Dean Fearing, Emeril Lagasse , Jimmy Schmidt , Jonathan Waxman, Larry Forgione, Lydia Shire, Mark Miller, Mark Tarbell, Nobu Matsuhisa, Peter Merriman, Piero Selvaggio, Pino Luongo, Rovert Del Grande, Roger Vergé , Roy Yamaguchi, Sam Choy, Wolfgang Puck and Alan Wong.

In addition, Gordon is involved in several restaurants.

Gordon's first film as a producer, The Duelists , was named Best Debut Film at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival . Gordon founded the US's first independent film production company, Alive Films, which produced the musical comedy Roadie with Meat Loaf in 1980 . In 1983, the company Island Alive was founded in partnership with Island Records , whose films include Koyaanisqatsi , Kiss of the Spider Woman and Stop Making Sense .

Gordon was executive producer of Wes Cravens Shocker and House of the Forgotten , as well as John Carpenter's The Princes of Darkness and The Village of the Damned .

Mike Myers made the 2013 documentary Supermensch - Who is Shep Gordon? .

Gordon's autobiography They Call Me Supermensch: A Backstage Pass to the Amazing Worlds of Film, Food, and Rock 'n' Roll was released in September 2016 and made the New York Times Best Seller List .

philanthropist

Gordon serves on the board of directors of the Tibet Fund , along with the Dalai Lama , for whom he has cooked on a number of occasions. He organized visits by the Dalai Lama to the University of Buffalo in 2006 and to Maui in 2007.

Gordon organizes an annual charity dinner in Maui. Since 2008, he has organized over a million meals for the needy.
