Soulfly is the debut album of Metal - band Soulfly . It was released on Roadrunner Records in April 1998 .
Origin and style
After separating from Sepultura , Max Cavalera was the first to release a new album, Soulfly . His rival former bandmates followed suit with Against in the fall of 1998 . The album Soulfly was made in Indigo Ranch Studios, Malibu , California , producer was Ross Robinson . Cavalera was able to gather a large number of guest musicians: In addition to Deftones singer Chino Moreno, almost the entire band Fear Factory took part, Fred Durst and DJ Lethal from Limp Bizkit and a few other guests can also be heard. Last but not least, Limp Bizkit and Moreno provided some influences from Nu Metal . Otherwise the record is heavily influenced by Sepultura's album Roots : "If you didn't like Roots , you don't even need to listen to this disc," said Cavalera about the album. The album cover was designed by the tattoo artist Leo Zulueta .
reception
Jan Jaedike rated Soulfly's debut in Rock Hard magazine with 7.5 out of ten points and called the album good, but it wasn't a “high-flyer”: “Friends of that last Sepultura output will, however, really enjoy Soulfly . It creaks, rumbles and tribal that the last hairs of every traditional Thrasher fall from frustration. But as I said, they are not the target group here anyway. "
