Sportsman of the year 1951 (Germany)
The best German athletes of 1951 were honored by Kurt Dobbratz . The election was organized for the 5th time by the Internationale Sport-Korrespondenz (ISK). A total of 329 sports reporters and editors from West Germany , Berlin , the GDR and Saarland cast their votes. Each sports journalist participating in the election could cast 55 votes: ten for the best German athlete, nine for the second best, eight for the third best, seven for the fourth best, six for the fifth best, etc.
For the first time, Ria and Paul Falk, a couple received the athlete of the year award .
There was no separate evaluation of athletes; according to modern interpretation, Ria Falk-Baran was also named “Sportswoman of the Year”. The best individual athlete was the all-rounder Maria Sander-Domgalla in 10th place.
