Sankt Margarethen im Lungau ( Lungau dialect : Mogreatn ) is one of the 15 communities in the Tamsweg (Lungau) district in the State of Salzburg in Austria with 718 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
Community structure
The place is divided into the districts of Oberbayrdorf, Unterbayrdorf, Triegen, Staig, Pichlern and the town center. The town center is in turn divided (informally by the residents) into Oberdorf and Unterdorf.
Until the end of January 1962 the community belonged to the judicial district of Sankt Michael im Lungau , since February 1, 1962 it has been part of the judicial district of Tamsweg .
coat of arms
The coat of arms shows a shield divided diagonally to the right. Above in black half a gold-proven silver ibex, which comes from the coat of arms of the knightly family of Mooshamer. Below is a gold-proven green dragon in silver in honor of the patroness, Saint Margaret, who is said to have defeated the dragon once. The coat of arms was designed by Peter Sampl and was awarded to the municipality on May 28, 1971.

- The Samson parade is a very old custom in the Lungau in which a giant figure is carried around.

In addition to a kindergarten and elementary school, there is also the private school Multiaugustinum , which offers training courses in the fields of gastronomy, art, media, advertising graphics and photography.
tourism
St. Margarethen is a popular holiday destination for all seasons. It is the valley location of the St. Margarethen - Aineck - Katschberg ski area . Four other ski areas (Speiereck-Großeck, Fanningberg, Obertauern and Schönfeld) can be reached within 5 to 20 minutes by car.
