Stephan Thomas (* 22. October 1957 in Berlin ) is a lieutenant general of the army of the armed forces and, since August 31, 2018 German commander shares Multinational Corps / Military underground organization in command army .

Military career

Training and first uses

In 1976 Thomas joined the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate with the 144th Panzer Battalion in Koblenz . In 1977 he completed his training as an armored platoon leader at the Munster Armored Troop School and then began studying economics and organizational sciences at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . Service as a staff officer

Service in the rank of general

In April 2010 Thomas took command of 12th Panzer Brigade from Colonel Michael Uhrig. His appointment as brigadier general followed a short time later. From June 24th, 2010, Thomas was again on a foreign assignment, this time as a contingent leader of the German KFOR contingent in Prizren. His deployment ended in October 2010. He handed the leadership brigade on October 4, 2012 to his successor. As early as July 2012, he was employed in the 1st German-Dutch Corps. In October 2014 Thomas took over the official duties of the Deputy Commander of the Rapid Forces Division from Brigadier General Reinhardt Zudrop . He handed over this post to Brigadier General Gert Gawellek on February 29, 2016 in order to take over the post of Deputy Commander of the 1st German-Dutch Corps from Major General Leo Beulen on March 9, 2016 . On August 31, 2018, Thomas took over the post of Lieutenant General Frank Leidenberger as Commander of the German Units of Multinational Corps / Basic Military Organization in the Army Command. In this post he was promoted to lieutenant general shortly afterwards.
