Dorndorf-Steudnitz is a former municipality in the north of the Saale-Holzland district and part of the city of Dornburg-Camburg .

geography

Dorndorf-Steudnitz is located in the middle Saale valley below the Dornburg castles in the wide floodplain of the river and on the federal road 88 between Jena and Camburg . The Berlin-Munich railway line runs through the valley.

Since the 1920s, Naschhausen on the opposite side of the hall has also been part of Dorndorf-Steudnitz.

history

The Steudnitz district was first mentioned in 1173 and the Dorndorf district in 1227. The district of Naschhausen, located on the western bank of the Saale, was first recorded in 1378. The location of the Dornburg , the construction of a bridge over the Saale and the associated increase in traffic flows through the Saale valley influenced the development of both villages. The oldest tradition from court owners of Dorndorf comes from the period from 1421 to 1425.

For centuries Dorndorf and Steudnitz belonged to different sovereign territories. Until 1343 Dorndorf was part of the imperial rule of the Dornburg taverns . This ended with the sale to the Counts of Orlamünde and Schwarzburg. Since the middle of the 14th century at the latest, Dorndorf has belonged to the newly established Wettin office of Dornburg . After the Leipzig division of the House of Wettin in 1485 it came to the Albertine Duchy and only in 1547 through the exchange of territory to the Ernestine House of Wettin. 1603–1672 Dorndorf then belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg, 1672–1690 to Saxony-Jena, from 1690 to Saxony-Weimar and from 1741 to Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach. Until 1640 Steudnitz belonged to the rule of the taverns of Tautenburg and from then to the Albertine- Electoral Saxon office of Tautenburg . It was not until the Congress of Vienna in 1815 that both places belonged to the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach , Amt Dornburg. In 1850 both places became part of the Weimar II administrative district (from 1868: Apolda administrative district ) of the Grand Duchy.

In the 19th century, Dornburg received a train station in Naschhausen with the construction of the Saalbahn line . This caused the influx of urban people looking for relaxation into the developing summer resorts in Dornburg-Dorndorf-Steudnitz and Tautenburg . In 1892 the Carl Alexander Bridge was built over the Saale as a direct connection between Dorndorf and Dornburg.

Dorndorf and Steudnitz merged into one community on May 27, 1964. On December 1, 2008 it became part of the city of Camburg together with the neighboring Dornburg , which was then given the name Dornburg-Camburg. Dorndorf-Steudnitz is now part of Dornburg-Camburg.

religion

The parish currently includes the eight parishes of Dorndorf-Steudnitz (with the districts Dorndorf, Naschhausen and Steudnitz), Dornburg (with Wilsdorf), Hirschroda, Eckolstädt, Münchengosserstädt, Schmiedehausen (with Lachstedt), Wetzdorf (with the places Wetzdorf, Rockau and Tautenburg) and Wichmar-Rodameuschel (with the places Wichmar, Würchhausen and Rodameuschel). The church of Dorndorf-Steudnitz dates back to the 13th century. It has been a Protestant parish since the Reformation.

economy

Industry and handicrafts have replaced the traditional branches of business and offer jobs. As a major employer, the Thomas Group operates a cement works with a limestone quarry in Dorndorf-Steudnitz, in which limestone is extracted for cement and building material production. After reunification, a building area was opened up and housing construction flourished. A REWE department store and a daycare center were also built. The former rural-oriented summer resort now offers cycling and river walks.
