Suzuki LJ80 (1978-1982)

The Suzuki LJ80 is an off - road vehicle built from 1978 to 1982 by the Japanese automobile, motorcycle and boat engine manufacturer Suzuki .

The vehicle originally developed for the Australian Army was first presented in Germany at the 1979 IAA . The LJ80 II version, revised for civilian use , was available with a closed steel roof, as a convertible and with a loading area ; it has been sold over 15,000 times within three years. It was only available with a four-cylinder gasoline engine with 797 cc and 39 hp (41 hp from 1981). In Germany only the convertible was offered. The top speed was 107 km / h.

In Germany, the car was promoted under the name Eljot and Jipsy when it was launched ; however, these model names had to be given up due to disputes with the rights holders of the brand names . With this vehicle, Suzuki achieved its international breakthrough as an automobile manufacturer.

One shortcoming, however, was the vehicle's strong susceptibility to rust . In 1982 the LJ was replaced by the Suzuki SJ .
