Synagogue (Wolfisheim)
The synagogue in Wolfisheim , a French commune in the Bas-Rhin department in historic Alsace , was built in 1897. The synagogue is on rue du Milieu.
history
In 1884 the Jewish community of Wolfisheim numbered 214 people and the synagogue built in 1837 had become too small. Therefore, a new synagogue was built in 1897, which has orientalizing style elements.
The building made of regional red sandstone has a rose window above the portal and ends with a triangular gable . This is surmounted by onion domes on both sides . Inside, the wall painting consists of floral motifs. In 2008 the synagogue was extensively restored.
Today the synagogue is used for worship by the Jewish residents of Wolfisheim, Eckbolsheim and Oberschaeffolsheim .
