The TB Uphusen (officially: Turnerbund Uphusen von 1912 eV ) is a sports club from Achim in the Verden district . The association was founded on May 19, 1912. The first soccer team has been playing in the fifth-class upper league of Lower Saxony since 2013 .

Club history

Founded until World War II

The TB Uphusen was founded on May 12, 1912, in contrast to this, the clubs in Mahndorf and Arbergen had been around for much longer. At first the hall of the nearby Hotel Haberkamp was used as a gym. In addition to gymnastics, punch and soccer also developed into popular sports during this time . However, the outbreak of World War I caused this development to stall. After the war, a sports area in a valley floor between Bakenberg and Sonnenberg was used. Around 1920, attempts were made to enlarge this area by closing the holes in the Laake, but this project was never really tackled. The current sports area on the dike, which was leased by a farmer at the time, has existed since 1924. This was designed for handball games, but was apparently too small according to the existing rules. An equipment and changing room shed was set up there. In 1925, however, the sports grounds were no longer sufficient, and then in 1927 there were plans for the first time to build a gymnasium because the existing space was much too small. In 1929 handball became more and more dominant as a sport and over time it completely replaced batting as a sport. With the outbreak of the Second World War , club life was again largely paralyzed.

Post-war until today

On June 2, 1946, there was a new beginning with the founding of the Kreissportbundes. A table tennis department was established in 1949, and the soccer department a year later. In 1953 a marching band was added. In 1960 the construction of the sports field began, the old handball field was sold to the district building association, which could then be used to finance an own gymnasium and changing rooms at the sports field. Both buildings were finally opened in 1963. Another new sports field was completed in 1980 and then inaugurated in 1981. Running tracks and jumping facilities were created on the old site, as well as side areas for handball games. In the same year, a clubhouse was also planned by the city and built with city funds and a financial contribution from the association. In 1991 an increased concentration of pollutants was found on the old sports field. In the following year, the sports field was finally closed to play. It should take until September 1996 for a new sports field to be built and opened. But there was also a new shot put ring next to the running track and the jumping facility. The old tool shed was then refurbished in 1997 and the roof renovated. In 1998 a beach volleyball facility was built on the side of the new sports field through an initiative by the volleyball department . Since the beginning of the 2000s there has also been a sports hall in which the handball and floorball departments play their games.

history

Beginnings until the 2010s

The football department was established on May 22, 1950. Between 1964 and 1967, the Uphusener played above the district league for the first time. In 1971 they were promoted to the district class again, before a sporting downward slide began in the 1980s, which brought the team to the 1st district class in 1986. The 1990s brought a sporting boom. After returning to the district league in 1993, the team reached the district league for the first time five years later. In 2005 TBU rose to the Lüneburg regional league . From the following season, Klaus Gelsdorf was the coach . This remained until the end of the 2006/07 season, whereupon Rolf Roeder followed him. However, this did not last long and left the Uphusener again at the end of the year. From the beginning of 2008 Frank Thinius was the team's coach. This held the post until March 2009, after which he was replaced by Nuri Papazoglu until the end of the 2009/10 season .

Promotion to the league

The next coach was Andre Schmitz, who previously held this position at TSV Uesen , the opportunity to form the team, which should then be crowned with great success. The 2011/12 season finished the Uphusener in second place in the Lüneburg regional league , but waived the promotion round to the Lower Saxony Oberliga in favor of TuS Celle FC . A year later, the team secured the championship and was promoted to the Upper House of Lower Saxony. The first season in the Lower Saxony Oberliga was finished in 9th place.

Betting fraud

In November 2014, two TB Uphusen players were suspected of having manipulated games specifically for the purpose of betting fraud . In the 2-4 defeat against SSV Jeddeloh , Uphusen missed a penalty in the final phase and then received two dismissals. According to the betting company Tipico , noticeably high sums were placed on a so-called handicap bet in this game. This season ended in 11th place.

Fight against relegation

After this season Andre Schmitz left the team as a promotion coach to join TSV Oldenburg . For the following season, Dennis Offermann , who previously held the office at Brinkumer SV , was the team's coach. After the 2015/16 season , the Uphusener were relegated as the third from last, but remained in the upper division after the rise of 1. FC Germania Egestorf / Langreder and the withdrawal of TuS Lingen . From the 2016/17 season , Benedetto Muzzicato (who came from FC Oberneuland ) was the team's coach. At the end of the season, the Uphusener benefited from the voluntary withdrawal of the second team of VfL Osnabrück . From the 2017/18 season, Fabrizio Muzzicato (as a previous coach at Bremer SV ) followed his brother to Uphusen in the role of assistant coach. Since Benedetto went to BSV Rheden as a coach shortly after the start of the 2017/18 season, Fabrizio became the Uphusener's coach from September 24, 2017. This finished the current season in 10th place.

After Fabrizio Muzzicato's dismissal at the end of September 2019, the assistant coach Sven Apostel , who has been active since this season, coached a few games. The successor was presented as a new trainer on October 20, 2019 in Achim Hollerieth . As before, Apostel took up the role of assistant coach again. In mid-March 2020, Hollerieth left the club after ten games. Sven Apostel took over the coaching position again. In mid-April 2020, however, it was announced that Apostel will also leave the association on June 30th. On May 28, it was announced that the previous Uphuser goalkeeper, Christian Ahlers-Ceglarek , would take over as coach for the next season.

More teams

In addition to the first, there is a second men's team, which currently plays in the Verden district league. Since the 2019/20 season there has also been a third team that is currently playing its games in the 3rd district class Verden .

Until the winter break of the 2019/20 season, the club's U-19s played in a youth syndicate with TSV Bierden in the A-Juniors Landesliga Lüneburg . Due to the reduced number of available players in the clubs, the JSG had to be deregistered from match operations at the end of January 2020.

Handball

There has also been a handball department since around 1924. In April 2014 a merger of the handball department with the OT Bremen was decided, these formed in the new HSG Bremer Kreuz . However, this did not last long and the syndicate was dissolved again on February 14, 2017. The men's team was dissolved at the end of the 2018/19 season. At the moment there is still a women's team in the regional league women in the HVN district of Central Lower Saxony .

Floorball

The floorball department goes under the name TB Uphusen Vikings . In 2005 the mixed floorball team of TB Uphusen became German champions . The men's team became German runner-up on the small field three years later. Between 2008 and 2010 the men also played in the 2nd Bundesliga . In 2015 the Vikings were able to win the Northwest German Small Field Championship again, which entitles them to later participate in the German championship.

The team also took part in almost every season of the Floorball Germany Cup . The first time this was in the 2007/08 Cup's premiere season . The greatest success was achieved in the 2009/10 season , when they made it to the second round against the Saalebiber Halle . In their last participation in the cup, they failed at home in the second round of the 2018/19 season at BAT Berlin .

Table tennis

The table tennis department in the club has existed since 1949. Up until the 2016/17 season they played in the 2nd district class Verden , but after the season they were relegated to the 3rd district class Verden as the penultimate . The team is currently playing in this league.
