List of train stations in Austria |
With the opening of the Empress Elisabeth Railway (Westbahn) in 1860, the Straßwalchen station was built here. It is a bit out of the way, the railway line passes here to the west, elevated above the valley floor on the terrace of the Stadlberg . Thalham thus became a suburb of Straßwalchen, but was still a small agricultural village until the middle of the 20th century. The stone village station was always the more important of the two Straßwalchener breakpoints. Today the Thalham train station has no architectural features, the old reception building stood where the parking lot is today.
This is where line S2 from Freilassing of the S-Bahn Salzburg ends , which is usually connected as a regional train to Linz. S-Bahn and regional trains are operated by ÖBB and are a tariff association.
The S-Bahn runs every hour. Driving time to Neumarkt-Köstendorf is 5 minutes, to Seekirchen / Wallersee about 15 minutes, to Freilassing about 40 minutes.
In addition, there are regional trains between Straßwalchen and Salzburg every hour on weekdays, which results in an approximate 20/40 cycle on this route.
The Straßwalchen - Zell am Moos - Mondsee post buses (route 595) also stop here .
The station is still important as a freight station , especially for loading wood.
