The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is the first and so far only solo album by the American singer Lauryn Hill , who previously enjoyed great success with the hip-hop trio Fugees . The album was released on August 25, 1998 by the labels Ruffhouse Records and Columbia Records . It has received numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards .

John Bush from the music database Allmusic reviewed the album as a collection of open personal and political statements which, in addition to commercial success, established a musical era.

The album was included in Robert Dimery's 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die . The local reviewer Jim Harrington highlights the musical range and Hill's vocal abilities:

The New Musical Express voted it 89th of the 500 best albums of all time.

In the selection of the 90 best albums of the decade, the magazine Spin occupied The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 28th, respectively.

Awards

The album won the 1999 Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best R&B Album . Hill also won a Grammy for Best New Artist and in the Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance categories . The album also won the Billboard Music Award for Best R&B Album .

In 2015, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was added to the National Recording Registry .
