Theodor Unger (General)

Karl August Theodor Unger (born April 6, 1836 in Trachenberg , Province of Silesia , † October 15, 1896 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Theodor was the son of the Prussian Rittmeister Gerhard Unger (1787-1850) and his wife Karoline Eleonore, née Beck (1794-1848).

Military career

After visiting the school in Brieg and the cadets houses in Wahlstatt and Berlin Unger was on 26 April 1853 as uncharacterized Portepeefähnrich the 22nd Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army transferred. On April 8, 1854, he received the patent for his rank and was promoted to second lieutenant by mid-April 1855 . After a brief command of the 6th Combined Reserve Battalion, Unger was appointed adjutant to the 1st Battalion of the 22nd Combined Infantry Regiment on August 7, 1859 , from which the 3rd Upper Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 62 emerged in early July 1860 . There he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on December 13, 1860 and took part in the German War in 1866 .

After the war, Unger was promoted to captain and company commander on October 30, 1866 . From April 20, 1870 he was commanded for training purposes in the infantry training battalion. With the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , he returned to his regiment and participated in the siege of Paris , the bombardments of Pfalzburg and Toul and the fighting in Villejuif , Vitry , Chevilly , L'Haÿ , Thiais and Choisy-le-Roi part .

Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, Unger was transferred to Mannheim on July 15, 1871 as chief of the 1st company in the 2nd Baden Grenadier Regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm" No. 110 after the peace agreement . With the promotion to major he was aggregated to the regiment on May 18, 1876, and in mid-December 1876 he was assigned as a regular staff officer. This was followed from May 13, 1880 to December 5, 1883 as commander of the 1st Battalion in the 4th Baden Infantry Regiment "Prince Wilhelm" No. 112 in Colmar . Then Unger was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel as a regular staff officer in the 7th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 56 in Wesel . On April 16, 1887, he became Colonel and Commander of the 1st West Prussian Grenadier Regiment No. 6 in Posen , before taking over as Major General of the newly created 72nd Infantry Brigade in Deutsch-Eylau on March 24, 1890 . In this position Unger received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, in January 1892 on the occasion of the festival of the order . For health reasons, he gave his farewell and was on 17 June 1893 awarding of the character as a lieutenant general with board for disposition made. He died in Görlitz on October 15, 1896.

Unger married Franziska von Clausewitz (1843–1912), a daughter of the Prussian lieutenant colonel, on December 17, 1868 in Berlin. D. Friedrich von Clausewitz (1796–1879).
