Theodor Wintermantel (born April 27, 1878 in St. Georgen in the Black Forest , † April 8, 1945 in Bretten ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life

Born the son of a farmer and innkeeper, Wintermantel studied law in Heidelberg and Freiburg im Breisgau . During his studies in 1896 he became a member of the Allemannia Heidelberg fraternity . He took his exams in 1900 and 1904. After being a one-year volunteer in 1896/97 , he became a lieutenant in the reserve in the 7th Baden Infantry Regiment in Mühlhausen in 1901 . He was a trainee lawyer at the Wolfach district office and in 1908 in Überlingen, where he founded the local yacht club. In 1910 he became first lieutenant in the reserve and took part in the First World War from 1914 to 1918 , most recently as captain of the reserve in the 3rd Upper Alsatian Infantry Regiment No. 172 . He was seriously wounded three times, but returned to the field after recovering. In 1918 he became senior bailiff , then head of department in Stockach . As such, he was responsible for protecting the grand ducal family who lived at Langenstein Castle during the November Revolution. In 1920 he became the district board member in Schopfheim . During the Upper Baden uprising in 1923 he was briefly kidnapped by strikers. In 1924 he went to Lörrach as district administrator and head of office , and in 1932 to Karlsruhe . From 1901 to 1919 he was a member of the National Liberal Party , then to 1932 of the German Democratic Party and from 1937 of the NSDAP . At the beginning of the 30s until it was integrated into the Association of National Socialist German Jurists (BNSDJ) , Wintermantel was chairman of the Association of Higher Administrative Officers in Baden. He tried in vain to keep the association within the BNSDJ. In 1945 he had the evacuation headquarters as district administrator in Bretten . When the Allies marched in, he and his wife committed suicide .
