This Could Be Heartbreak is the fifth studio album of the Australian post-hardcore - band The Amity Affliction , which on August 12, 2016 at UNFD in Australia and Roadrunner Records was published worldwide.

background

In November 2015, the group released the song Shine On, their first new material since the fourth studio album Let the Ocean Take Me , which was released in 2014. Until May 18, 2016, it was unclear whether the song would be a first taste of the new album. After the group announced the album on May 18, 2016 for August 12, 2016 and announced the track list, it was clear that the song should be a stand-alone single. Instead, I Bring the Weather With Me, the first official single was released on the day the album was officially announced. The pre-order phase for the album began a day later.

The album was recorded by Will Putney , who has worked with the band in the past. On July 11, 2016, the second single was released with the song named after the album. On August 9, 2016, three days before the album was released, another song was pre-released with All Fucked Up . The album was finally released on August 12, 2016.

Commercially

Mike Hohnen from the Australian online music magazine MusicFeeds started from the fact that the last two previous works Chasing Ghosts and Let the Ocean Take Me both occupied number 1 in the Australian album charts and that This Could Be Heartbreak was also a number one Album in Australia . The news that the entire Australian tour in August was already sold out reinforced his assumption. In fact, This Could Be Heartbreak debuted at the top of the Australian album charts in the week ending August 22nd, 2016.

The album entered the German and British album charts for the first time in the week of August 19, 2016 , where it was listed at number 29 and 51 respectively. Like its predecessor , This Could Be Heartbreak made it into the New Zealand charts , where it landed at number 32. The album was also listed for the first time in the Belgian album charts , where it peaked at number 145 in the week of August 20, 2016. The album landed at number 13 in Scotland . Chart listings in Austria and Switzerland followed a little later .

Reviews

Matt Doria of the Australian Blunt Magazine writes that the album is much darker compared to its predecessor Let the Ocean Take Me . However, he is of the opinion that the album is much weaker than its predecessor, even if he emphasizes that This Could Be Heartbreak is a good album. Gavin Britton of the Australian Rolling Stone described some songs from the album as catchy and heavy. The lyrics are about topics like depression and suicide . Precisely because of the stagnant musical sound as well as the great singing of Ahren Stringer, the band could get more hits and play sold-out tours. In Alternative Press states that the group really depressive lyrics in the chorus of pop-punk leave and sound brightening. The band shows all its strength when they show themselves from their tough times. The gutturally performed vocals and the metalcore sound reflect their dark, cinematic and eerie nature.

Pascal Irmer from FUZE Magazine writes that the group relies on tried and tested formulas. So the group worked again with Will Putney , who had worked with the band in the past. In addition, the band processed hard riffs and melodic vocals, which on this album, however, came across as more pop-punk than ever before. The music on This Could Be Heartbreak is even comparable to A Day to Remember . Jan Hassenpflug from Laut.de wrote a rather sobering review. The interplay of aggression and gorgeous melodies has achieved recognition value, but even in the songwriting process, calculations quickly crept into what plays into the cards of those people who see Metalcore doomed to fail. Despite the sensitive subject of depression, the album turned out to be shockingly flat, both musically and in terms of content. In addition, the screamings are monotonous and the clearly sung Led passages are completely interchangeable. The author comes to the conclusion that a talented band has completely lost the thread with increasing success.
