The 19th stage of the Tour de France 2008 on July 25th was 165.5 kilometers long and ran from Roanne to Montluçon . There were two sprint classifications and one mountain classification each in the 3rd and 4th category on the program.
Immediately after the start there were a few more attacks, but none of them were crowned with success. At kilometer 10 a group around Fabian Wegmann , Romain Feillu and Juan Antonio Flecha lost the connection, later another larger group. Meanwhile, Stefan Schumacher , Egoi Martínez , Alessandro Ballan and Pierrick Fédrigo were able to break away . In the field, Gert Steegmans tried a short breakaway attempt. Schumacher was the first to cross both mountain ratings. The field was again mostly led by Liquigas , who caught the outliers 96 km from the finish. Then several drivers attacked again. Sylvain Chavanel and Jérémy Roy finally managed to pull away a little, their lead increased to around five minutes. Chavanel finally won the first sprint classification of the day. Now the Barloworld team started the follow-up work. Roy won the second sprint classification. The two managed to save a little more than a minute ahead of the 1000 meter long and 6 meter wide home straight in Montluçon, where Chavanel won the sprint against Roy. Gerald Ciolek won the sprint of the main field ahead of Erik Zabel and Heinrich Haussler . Again, this did not result in any changes to the overall ranking. The group around Fabian Wegmann, Romain Feillu and Juan Antonio Fletcha lost more and more time on the peloton and could no longer reach the goal within the waiting period.
