The 6th stage of the Tour de France 2016 was held on July 7th, 2016. The flat stage led over 190.5 kilometers from Arpajon-sur-Cère to Montauban . There was one mountain classification in the 4th and two mountain ratings in the 3rd category as well as an intermediate sprint in Montbazens after 77.5 kilometers.

Race course

Just a few minutes after the start, a breakaway group formed with Jan Bárta ( BOA ) and Yukiya Arashiro ( LAM ), who were able to extend their lead to around 4 minutes. The peloton caught up with the outliers 20 km from the finish and the sprinter teams positioned themselves at the head of the field for the mass sprint at the finish. In the finish sprint, Mark Cavendish prevailed just ahead of Marcel Kittel and Daniel McLay . With his third win of the day, Cavendish recaptured the green jersey from Peter Sagan . In the ranking of the record stage winners at the Tour de France, Mark Cavendish, with 29 daily victories, is second behind Eddy Merckx and ahead of Bernard Hinault . Yukiya Arashiro was named the most aggressive driver of this stage, there were no changes in the other ratings.
