The 21st stage of the Tour de France 2016 was held on July 24, 2016. It was the last stage of the 103rd Tour of France. It led over 113 kilometers from Chantilly to the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris . In the French capital, a circuit was driven eight times before the finish sprint, won by André Greipel . There was a mountain classification in the fourth category and an intermediate sprint after 73.5 kilometers.

Race course

The escape group of the day was made up of Alexis Gougeard (ALM), Lawson Craddock (CDT), Marcus Burghardt (BMC), Daniel Teklehaimanot (DDD), Jérémy Roy (FDJ), Jan Bárta (BOA), Rui Costa (LAM) and Brice Feillu ( FVC). Before that, Roman Kreuziger had got the last mountain point of the 2016 tour. The intermediate sprint after 73.5 kilometers was won by Marcus Burghardt in front of Jan Bárta and Daniel Teklehaimanot, while the field no longer sprinted for the other points.

Before the sprint finish, co-favorite Marcel Kittel (EQS) had a defect and had to drive back into the field after losing about a minute to the other sprinters due to the required wheel change. About six kilometers from the finish line, the outliers, who had never been granted a significant lead, were overtaken by the field.

Shortly before the last kilometer, Bryan Coquard (DEN) also had a defect and thus lost all chances of a good placement on the Champs-Élysées. André Greipel (LTS) won the mass sprint ahead of Peter Sagan (TNK) and Alexander Kristoff (KAT). Greipel achieved his first tour stage success this year and his eleventh day win on a tour of France.
