Tschlin ( [tʃlin] ? / I ; German and until 1943 officially Schleins ) is a village in the Swiss Lower Engadine and until the end of 2012, a municipality in the county Ramosch , Bezirk Inn . Audio file / audio sample

On October 21, 2011, the municipal assemblies of Ramosch and Tschlin , which met separately, approved a merger agreement, which was approved by the cantonal parliament in April 2012. Since January 1, 2013, the merged municipality has been called Valsot .

The name of this village, first mentioned in 1351, originally means a building that is surrounded by a wall.

The village of Tschlin is located in the Lower Engadine at 1533 m above sea level. M, north of the Inn . The Martina fraction with the village of Vinadi and the Strada fraction with the village of Chaflur and the hamlet of Sclamischot also belong to Tschlin .

The Val Sampuoir belongs to the municipality . It is orographically Engadine side valley of Samnaun .

The main branches of business are agriculture, the service industry, including customs and border guards, and a brewery (Biera Engiadinaisa).

About 40 minutes by car from the village of Tschlin, but also in the municipality, is the large, duty-free shopping center Acla da Fans in the Sampuoir customs-free area .

Attractions

  • The reformed, late Gothic church of San Plasch was built in 1515 from the nave walls of the former church. The wall paintings date from the early 16th century.

Culture

In the tradition of nicknames for the Engadine villages , the Tschliners are called ils tschiainders , in English: "the gypsies". The folk music group Ils Fränzlis da Tschlin comes from Tschlin .

history

The place has been inhabited since at least the 10th century. In 1499 Tyrolean troops advanced to Tschlin, but Duonna Lupa was able to move them to retreat because she claimed that the Confederates were advancing. In the Thirty Years' War during the turmoil in Graubünden , the village suffered severe damage from Austrian troops in 1621/22. In 1854 Tschlin became an independent municipality. Almost all of the village burned down in 1856.

The Novellaberg and the right flank of the Samnaun valley , a total of 18 square kilometers of what is today Tschlin and Valsot, have been controversial territory since the beginning of modern times. In 1868 a treaty between Austria and Switzerland finally made the disputed area part of Switzerland.
