The Vinchos District is located in the Huamanga Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. The district has an area of 951 km². The 2017 census counted 14,901 residents. In 1993 the population was 12,647, in 2007 15,787. The district administration is located in the village of Vinchos with 546 inhabitants (as of 2017) located at an altitude of 3150 m on the east bank of the north-flowing Río Cachi (also Río Vinchos ). Vinchos is just 17 km southwest of the provincial and regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga).
Geographical location
The Vinchos District is located in the far west of the Huamanga Province. It is located in the Andean highlands . The Río Cachi drains the area in a northerly direction to the Río Mantaro .
The district of Vinchos borders in the south with the district Chuschi , in the southwest with the district Paras (both in the province Cangallo ), in the west with the district Pilpichaca ( province Huaytará ), in the northwest with the districts Lircay and Santo Tomás de Pata (both in the province of Angaraes ), in the northeast to the districts of San José de Ticllas and Socos and in the southeast to the districts of Chiara and Los Morochucos (province of Cangallo).
