The first documentary mention of Wöhlsdorf (Auma-Weidatal) from Wöhlsdorf took place in 1389.

On October 10, 1806, a battle between 9,000 Prussian and 14,000 French soldiers took place near Wöhlsdorf . The French armed forces were victorious. During this battle, the commander of the advance guard, the Prussian Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia, was killed.

The place was and is agriculturally oriented.

Culture and sights

In Wöhlsdorf there is a memorial for Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia. It was built in 1821–1823 based on a design by Karl Friedrich Schinkel . Between 1981 and 1984 the monument was demolished and then rebuilt. The stele-like structure made of sandstone has a triangular gable . A bronze relief with a standing genius by Christian Friedrich Tieck is embedded in it.
