Wacław Wrzesiński

Wacław Wrzesiński (born August 26, 1918 in Warsaw ; † August 1, 1981 there ) was a Polish cyclist and Polish cycling champion .

Athletic career

During his sporting career he was a member of the Polonia Warszawa club . He was active from 1935 to 1960. Wrzesiński won the Polish championship twice, in 1949 in road racing and in 1950 the mountain championship. He was also second twice in the road race (1948 and 1956) and in the team time trial over 100 km (1949 and 1954). In 1949 he was second in the mountain championship.
He took part in the International Peace Tour five times. In 1948 he achieved his best placement on the course from Prague to Warsaw with fifth place in two stage wins. At his home tour of Poland , he won a total of eleven stages in several participations, wore the jersey of the front runner several times and had his best result in 3rd place in 1948. In 1957 he won the Polish Dookoła Mazowsza Tour (or Mazovia Tour), which has been held since 1951.  

Professional

After finishing his sports career, he worked as a cycling coach .

Personal

Under the pseudonym “Zuch” he worked during the Second World War in the Tajna Armia Polska, a Polish underground military organization, and later in the Armia Krajowa , the Polish Home Army. He was also actively involved in the Warsaw Uprising .
