The Wambach is less than two kilometers long orographic left tributary of Odenbaches in Rhineland-Palatinate Kusel district in the area of the municipality Lauterecken-Wolfenstein belonging to local churches Relsberg and Hefersweiler .

geography

course

The Wambach arises from two source streams northeast of the village of Relsberg. The approximately seven hundred meter long, western and left source stream rises at an altitude of 337  m above sea level. NHN about 350 m north of Relsberg in a mixed forest at the south-south-western foot of the gudgeon ( 378.7  m ) the eastern spur of the Bauerschiederberg ( 398.8  m ). It initially flows a good two hundred meters westwards along the southern edge of the forest and then passes the municipal boundary from Relsberg to Hefersweiler. About half a kilometer down the stream it flows together in the Wambach side corridor from a right source branch coming from the south.

The well over five hundred meter long, southern and right source stream rises in the Netzwald corridor at a height of 329  m, almost four hundred meters east of Relsberg at the western foot of the Schwanenberg ( 360.6  m ) in a small biotope with field trees. It flows first to the east and then to the north-east a good two hundred meters through wood, then passes the border to Hefersweiler, then runs along the county road 43 in a north direction through grassland and joins the other source branch almost three hundred meters later.

The united Wambach now moves almost three hundred meters to the north-northeast on the eastern edge of the forest, then changes its course to the east-northeast and shortly afterwards passes a small pond on its right side. It now runs along the south of the houses-lined Wolfsteiner Strasse ( Landesstrasse 384 ) on the outskirts of the village, accompanied by thick wood . On his left in the Binsenwiese corridor there are the front gardens of the houses and on the right in the Kirschäcker corridor there is a large meadow. It then flows through the village, crosses under the L 382 ( valley road ) and finally joins the Odenbach coming from the south at a height of 224  m from the left .

Catchment area

The 1.97 km² catchment area of the Wambach lies in the natural area of Moschelhöhen . of the North Palatinate Bergland and is therefore also part of the Saar-Nahe Bergland . The highest point in the catchment area is the gudgeon to the west of Hefersweiler with a height of 378.7  m . Another notable hill is the 360.6  m high Schwanenberg east of Relsberg.

The Wambach area borders in the southwest on the catchment area of the Sulzbach, which flows into the Glan, and in the northwest the Ausbach competes with the Odenbach as receiving waters. In the north its catchment area is bounded by the Odenbach tributary Zangengraben and in the south by the Moorbach, which also flows into the Odenbach, and its tributary Brühler Graben .

The northern area of its catchment area is characterized by sandy - loamy fields and in the south forests and grassland dominate. In the south-west lies the village of Morbach, which belongs to the Kaiserslautern district, and the local community of Relsberg, which belongs to the Kusel district, in the estuary.

Data

The Wambach drains over the Odenbach , the Glan , the Nahe and the Rhine into the North Sea . The difference in altitude from its source to its mouth is 113 m, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 57.3 ‰ over a run length of 1.867 km. Its catchment area, with its size of 1.971 km², contributes around 2.3% to the catchment area of the Odenbach (85.956 km²).

geology

The catchment area of the Wambach lies in the Rotliegend of the Permocarbons in the Lower Glan subgroup . The sediment layer consists of alternating layers of gray, sometimes red, claystone , siltstone and sandstone . Tuff , limestone and coal deposits also occur occasionally .
