The Meppen Waterways and Shipping Office (WSA Meppen) was a waterways and shipping office in Germany. It belonged to the service area of the General Directorate for Waterways and Shipping , formerly Waterways and Shipping Directorate West .
By merging the waterways and shipping authorities in Meppen and Emden , the new waterways and shipping authorities in Ems-Nordsee were merged on January 15, 2020 .
Area of responsibility
The fairway and Shipping Authority Meppen was responsible for the federal waterways Ems of Hanekenfähr to Meppen incl. Various backwaters that Hase in Meppen, the Dortmund-Ems Canal of Gleesen (km 138.3) to Papenburg (km 225.82, lock Papenburg ), the coastal canal from west of Oldenburg (km 8.05) to the confluence with the Dortmund-Ems canal (km 69.6) and the Elisabethfehn canal from the coastal canal to Leda . The unfinished Gleesen-Papenburg side canal was also located in the area of the Meppen Waterways and Shipping Office .
Area of responsibility
The tasks of the Meppen Waterways and Shipping Office included:
- Maintenance of federal waterways in the official area
- Operation and maintenance of structures, e.g. B. locks , weirs and bridges
- Extension and new construction
- Maintenance and operation of the navigation signs
- Measurement of water levels
- Takeover of electricity and shipping police tasks.
Outskirts
The suburbs in Meppen, Lathen , Edewechterdamm and the building yards Meppen and Lingen belonged to the Meppen waterways and shipping office .
- The outer district of Meppen was responsible for the Dortmund-Ems Canal from km 138.3 to km 175.0, the Ems from Hanekenfähr (km 84.36) to Meppen (km 123.25), which is not navigable here, and the Hase in Meppen.
- The suburb of Lathen was responsible for the Dortmund-Ems Canal from km 175.0 to km 225.82, the coastal canal from km 64.0 to km 69.6 and the Dörpen branch canal.
- The Edewechterdamm suburb was responsible for the coastal canal from km 8.05 to km 64.16 as well as the Elisabethfehn canal from the coastal canal (km 0.0) to the Leda (km 14.83).
- In particular, the Meppen building yard carried out maintenance and repair work on ships and facilities belonging to the Meppen Waterways and Shipping Office.
