The Wells Fargo Center is a multi-purpose arena in the US city ​​of Philadelphia in the US state of Pennsylvania . It is the home of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). In addition, the Philadelphia Soul teams from the Arena Football League (AFL) and the Villanova Wildcats ( NCAA - Big East Conference ) use the hall in addition to the Finneran Pavilion with 6,500 seats.

The arena was completed in 1996 on the site of the former John F. Kennedy Stadium , the construction costs amounted to 206 million  US dollars , most of which was raised by private investors. The building is located in the southeast area of ​​the South Philadelphia Sports Complex , which also includes Lincoln Financial Field and Citizens Bank Park . The previous arena, the Philadelphia Spectrum , was part of it until it was demolished .

The arena's spectator capacity for basketball games is 21,600 and 19,519 for ice hockey games . The Wells Fargo Center also offers 126 luxury suites and 1,880 box seats. Originally the name sponsor of the arena was CoreStates Bank, which agreed to pay 40 million US dollars for it, but in 1998 the naming rights were transferred to First Union Bank and five years later to Wachovia Bank, which gave the hall its name gave. In 2010, Wells Fargo was given a new name and the arena has been called Wells Fargo Center since then.

In March 2018, plans for the modernization of the event hall were published. The 76ers and Flyers venue is to be brought up to date with the latest technology by 2021 for around 200 million euros . A new building was also included in the planning, but the decision was made against it at costs of around 605 million euros. In February 2019, further details of the modernization became known. During the NHL lockout in the 2004/05 season , the Flyers farm team , the Philadelphia Phantoms , used the hall to move their home games from the old Wachovia Spectrum to the new arena.
