World championship in throwing Christmas trees

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The "World Championship in Christmas Tree Throwing" has been held annually since 2007 as part of the Knutfest in the Palatinate community of Weidenthal . At the event hosted by FC Wacker Weidenthal , the aim of the participants in a three-way fight consisting of throwing up, throwing and throwing at long distances with the approximately 1.50 m high Christmas tree is to achieve the greatest overall distance. It is not a real world championship because, among other things, there is no world sports association for the discipline.

Christmas tree throwing

history

In 2003, FC Wacker Weidenthal hosted a Knutfest based on the Swedish model for the first time. Four years later, the first "World Championship" in this sport was held in Weidenthal - inspired by throwing Christmas trees at the IKEA furniture company - in which around 40 competitors took part.

The Irish Christmas Tree Throwing Championship has been taking place every January in the western Irish town of Ennis , independent of the event in Weidenthal, since 2012 .

reporting

In addition to regional and national press, mass media from Italy (DireDonna), Canada ( Montreal Gazette ), New Zealand ( TV3 ), Poland ( TVN24 ), Russia ( Perwy kanal ), Spain ( Marca ), the United Kingdom ( BBC , The Daily Telegraph) reported ), the United States ( The Huffington Post ) and Vietnam (Người Lao Động), and Euronews on the event.

Set of rules

The competition is held in a three-way battle:

  • Throw up: free execution over a bar
  • Throwing throw: similar to hammer throwing , a rope is attached to the tree stump, with the help of which the tree is thrown after at least one full turn
  • Long throw: based on javelin throwing
