Werbig is a district of the municipality of Niederer Fläming in the Teltow-Fläming district in the state of Brandenburg . It is located 23 km south of the district town of Luckenwalde . Werbig is a street village. The development along the Dorfstrasse is characterized by typical four-sided courtyards . However, most of the barns, as the rear border of the courtyards, have already been demolished and the facades of the houses on the street side have been renovated according to modern aspects (plastering, windows, doors, etc.), so that outwardly little can be seen in their original condition. From five ponds, only one is left today. The village church, a late Romanesque field stone building with a drawn-in, groin-vaulted choir and apse from the first half of the 13th century, is also characteristic of the place. The baroque lattice tower was demolished in 1968 due to dilapidation and was finally reconstructed in 2011. With a height of over 26 meters and its onion-shaped spire, it is meanwhile an important landmark again .

history

Werbig goes back to Slavic settlements and is mentioned as early as the 5th century. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1225. With the settlement by predominantly Flemish settlers in the 12th century, Werbig came into the possession of the ore monastery of Magdeburg as part of the Jüterbog office of Brandenburg as an exclave . The name refers to the origin of the settlers: Werbig, on Platt Werwick , takes its name from the Flemish city of Wervik . A fire almost completely destroyed the village in 1558. In 1638 the plague did not stop at Werbig either. After the Peace of Westphalia , the area around Jüterbog came with Werbig to Electoral Saxony , and then finally to Prussia with the Congress of Vienna in 1815 . Until the line was closed in 1965, the Jüterbog-Luckenwalder Kreiskleinbahn stop between Jüterbog and Dahme / Mark was advertising . In the GDR , Werbig was an independent municipality in the Jüterbog district in the Potsdam district , from 1990 to the formation of the Niederer Fläming municipality in the office of the same name .

Sights and culture

  • The village church of Werbig is a late Romanesque stone church from the first half of the 13th century. The baroque half-timbered tower was dismantled in 1968 and was reconstructed in 2011. The church fittings comes down to a baptismal from 1714 from the 1960s. Since 2005, the Förderverein Kirchturm Werbig e. V. for the faithful reconstruction of the baroque half-timbered tower of the church, which was demolished in 1968 due to disrepair. The association currently has 33 members. With the help of numerous cultural events, the association was able to raise the necessary funds to co-finance the project, which is otherwise mainly funded by the EU . The foundation stone was laid for the tower on March 20, the top of the tower was crowned with a ball, weather vane and cross and the bell was "retrieved" at Easter and the topping-out ceremony on May 5, 2011. With the exception of the remaining work after six years of activity, the actual aim of its work was achieved. However, the members have decided that the association should continue to exist and also dedicate itself to other funding projects in the locality in the future. In mid-2018, a burial place for urn burials was inaugurated in the cemetery .
  • The local sports club is SV Grün-Weiß Werbig e. V. Founded in 1968 as BSG Traktor Werbig, today its members only occasionally devote themselves to old-school football .

Economy and Infrastructure

As in the entire municipality, economic life is shaped by agriculture , small businesses and handicrafts . So find u in the place. a. three farms, a hairdresser , an outpatient care service , a veterinarian , a component distributor , a tire service and a tiler .

Since the late 1990s, electricity generation from wind power has also played a role. Most of the 15 wind turbines in the Werbig district are located in a part of the Niederer Fläming community.

The Ludwig-Achim-von-Arnim elementary school is located in the village .

Connection to the supraregional transport network is provided by federal highway 102 , which crosses the town in the north. Werbig is connected to local public transport by several bus routes operated by the Teltow-Fläming u. a. to Jüterbog , Dahme and the district town of Luckenwalde .
