It belongs to the natural areas 101 - Middle Alb foreland and 106 - Filder within the natural spatial main unit 10 - Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation of meadows, orchards, hedges, bodies of water, riparian and field trees and forests. These lively landscape elements with their high ecological and scenic value are important living and retreat areas for many, sometimes endangered, animal and plant species. They are of paramount importance for the efficiency of the natural balance, convey closeness to nature to people who are looking for relaxation and are of great experience value. In addition, the areas on the edge of the existing nature reserves Wernau Baggerseen and Wernau clay pit fulfill important buffer functions for these nature reserves. The preservation of the areas as a place to live for plants and animals, as a recreational area for people and as areas with a climatic compensation function is of general interest and should be secured by placing them under protection.A further essential aim of placing under protection is to prevent the development of small buildings and enclosures from advancing .
