Weilheim an der Teck on the districts of Weilheim and Hepsisau is a landscape protection area (protected area number 1.16.006) in the Esslingen district .

Location and description

The protected area consists of three sub-areas. It is mostly located south and east of the city of Weilheim. The district of Hepsisau is almost completely enclosed. The original 1620 hectare area has been reduced to 1407 hectares due to the designation of nature reserves. The LSG belongs to the natural areas 094- Mittlere Kuppenalb and 101- Mittleres Albvorland within the natural spatial main units 09- Swabian Alb and 10- Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation of the diversity, uniqueness and beauty of the partly wooded and richly structured hilly zone in the foreland and in the area of ​​the steep ascent of the Swabian Alb. Limburg and Egelsberg, which are of volcanic origin, also require special protection with regard to their ornithological (ornithological) valuable population. In addition, conservation is important as an ecological compensation and recreation area near the Stuttgart agglomeration.
