Friedrich Wilhelm Stahl (born June 10, 1812 in Munich , † March 19, 1873 in Gießen ) was a German political scientist and politician.

Origin and studies

Friederich Wilhelm Golson-Uhlfelder was born as the grandson of the head of the Jewish community Abraham Uhlfelder , son of his daughter Barbara and her husband Valentin Golson from Heidingsfeld , and the younger brother of Friedrich Julius Stahl . He was baptized with his parents and six siblings on March 6, 1824 in the Evangelical Church in Munich and, like them, took the surname Stahl, following the example of Julius, who had already converted. his christening father was Friedrich Immanuel Niethammer . After the early death of both parents, Wilhelm Stahl came to the house of the well-known philologist Döderlein in Erlangen (godfather and friend of his brother Julius and Niethammer's son-in-law), who directed his upbringing. After graduating from high school, he studied natural sciences, especially physics and chemistry, in Munich and Halle . In 1828 he joined the Marcomannia Munich fraternity , and in 1829 the Germania Munich fraternity . In 1835 he obtained his doctorate in Erlangen. phil.

Employed as a teacher at the trade school in Fürth from 1836–1845 , Stahl, encouraged by FBW Hermann (at that time professor in Erlangen), engaged in more in-depth studies of economics, founded the trade association in Fürth in 1844 and qualified as a lecturer in Erlangen in 1845, where he worked in 1846 received an extraordinary professorship in the state economy, police and finance economy.

In 1848 Wilhelm Stahl was elected in Ellingen for the 8th constituency of Middle Franconia as a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly, to which he belonged from May 18, 1848 to May 24, 1949. He had a seat on the economic committee and initially belonged to the liberal faction " Württemberger Hof ", but in September 1848 he joined its conservative spin-off " Augsburger Hof ". In 1851 Wilhelm Stahl followed a call to Giessen as a full professor of political science , was also rector of the university from 1861–62 and 1866–67 and, since 1852, a member of the examination committee for the judicial and government subjects.

Wilhelm Stahl was married to Ida von Klipstein, a daughter of the mineralogist and geologist August von Klipstein , and died on March 19, 1873 in Gießen.
