Wilhelm Hermann August von Grolman (born June 20, 1829 in Glogau , † January 24, 1893 in Barzdorf , Striegau district ) was a Prussian general of the infantry and commanding general of the XI. Army Corps .

Life

His parents were the general of the infantry Karl von Grolman (1777-1843) and his second wife Hedwig, born von Rotenhan (1796-1864).

Military career

Grolman began his education at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Posen and then came to the Köllnisches Realgymnasium in Berlin. On May 11, 1847, he joined the 1st Guards Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army as a grenadier . There Grolmann was posted on January 13, 1848 Portepeefähnrich and received on 26 June 1849 the character as a second lieutenant . With a patent dated June 26, 1849 he became second lieutenant on March 14, 1850 and with this date he was placed over the budget, on July 22, 1852 he came into the budget. During the mobilization on the occasion of the Sardinian War , Grolman was commanded from June 15 to August 15, 1859 as a company commander of the mobile II battalion in the 1st Guards Landwehr Regiment in Stettin . On March 20, 1860, he was posted to Persia to accompany the Minister-Resident and Consul General Julius von Minutoli (his uncle) . In addition to his salary, he received another 1000 thalers for this. On February 23, 1861 Grolman was transferred to the 3rd Guards Regiment on foot , where he was promoted to captain and company commander on December 8, 1861 . From there, on November 20, 1862, he was transferred to the General Staff of the 10th Division in Posen. On June 7, 1866, he was promoted to major. During the war against Austria , Grolman was wounded during a reconnaissance ride in the battle near Nachod . But he fought again at Skalitz and Schweinschädel , where he was so badly wounded that he was unable to fight for the rest of the war. On September 20, 1866 he received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with swords.

On March 17, 1867 Grolman was appointed commander of the Fusilier Battalion in the Guards Grenadier Regiment No. 3 and promoted in this capacity on July 26, 1870 to lieutenant colonel. In the war against France in 1870/71 he took part in the battles of Gravelotte and Le Bourget as well as the siege of Paris and the battle near Aulnay. For Gravelotte he received the Iron Cross II. Class and on April 8, 1871 the Cross I Class. In 1886, Grolman was an observer from August 19 to 24 during the Russian maneuvers in the Krasnoe-Selo camp.
