William Law "Willie" Anderson (born October 25, 1879 in North Berwick , Scotland , † October 25, 1910 in Chestnut Hill , Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was a Scottish- American professional golfer who was the first player to win the US Open four times, and to this day he is the only one who succeeded in doing this three times in a row.

Anderson won this major tournament in 1901, 1903, 1904 and 1905. So far, only Bobby Jones , Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus have also recorded four wins.

Career

He emigrated from Scotland to the USA with his father Tom Anderson Sr. and his brother Tom Jr. in 1896 and played his first US Open the following year, which he finished second. 1899 was his first major tournament victory, at the Southern California Open , before Anderson had his successful run at the US Open. In total, he took part in fourteen consecutive US Open and recorded in addition to the four wins a second, a third, two fourth, three fifth, two eleventh and a 15th place. He also won the major Western Open in 1902, 1904, 1908, and 1909.

Anderson made a living as a golf instructor at ten different golf clubs for 14 years . He officially died of epilepsy at the age of 31 . He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1975.
