Willy Beutz

Willy Beutz (born March 4, 1912 in Rüstringen ; † May 11, 1986 in Wilhelmshaven ) was a German businessman and patron .

Life

After working in banking and as a marine chief accountant (1936–1945), Beutz became co-owner on October 1, 1945, and sole owner from February 1, 1946, of the Friesen press sales department. In addition, he re-founded the Friesen-Verlag in 1957.

As chairman of the “Independent Voting Association” he was a member of the City Council of Wilhelmshaven from 1960 to 1972.

From 1945 to 1982 Beutz was director of the Low German stage "Rüstringen", which is now called Theater am Meer . From 1961 to 1980 he was President (from 1980 to 1986 Honorary President) of the Lower Saxony-Bremen regional group of the Low German Stage Association . The federal government has the task of promoting the maintenance and preservation of the Low German language by means of the Low German drama. He therefore suggested training and further education measures for breathing and phonetics, lighting, stage design and construction, dramaturgy, make-up and masking, directing, singing and acting. In order to improve the quality of the acting, the commitment of professional directors to the federally affiliated theaters and stages was also promoted.

From 1972 he was a member of the advisory board of the Institute for Low German Language in Bremen as well as of the Bevensen Foundation.

From 1982 he was chairman of the board of trustees of the Richard Ohnsorg Prize .

In 1972 he received the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit , in 1978 the Golden Anton Günther Memorial Medal of the Oldenburg Landscape , in 1982 the badge in gold and diamonds of the Lower German Stage Association of Lower Saxony-Bremen and the Golden Commemorative Coin of the Lower German Stage Association of Schleswig-Holstein.

Willy Beutz Acting Award

In 1975 Beutz donated the Willy Beutz Prize to promote Low German Drama , a challenge prize combined with a sum of money. The first award winner in 1977 was the Niederdeutsche Bühne Cuxhaven .

The prize, now a walking board combined with the cash prize, is awarded every two years. The award is given to productions of plays and dramas from member stages of the Bühnenbund in the order of priority assessed by an expert jury. The 1st to 3rd prizes have been awarded since 2010. The places are rewarded with 3,000, 2,000 and 1,000 euros respectively.
