Winfried Zimmer

Winfried Zimmer (born December 29, 1954 in Duisburg ) is a Brigadier General a. D. of the army of the Bundeswehr . His last assignment was in command of the Bundeswehr logistics school in Osterholz-Scharmbeck .

Military career

Training and first uses

Zimmer joined the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate in 1974 . This was followed by a degree in pedagogy at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich, from which he graduated as a qualified pedagogue. During this time he was promoted to lieutenant in June 1976 and first lieutenant in 1979 . From 1980 Zimmer was deployed as platoon leader , intelligence officer ( S2 ) and company commander in Jägerbataillon 531 in Ahlen . In 1983 he was appointed captain .

Service as a staff officer

From 1986 to 1988 Zimmer completed general staff training at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg and was then promoted to major . From 1988 to 1990 he was a staff officer at the Head of Staff Department II, Communications in the Command Staff of the Armed Forces (FüS II) in the Bonn Federal Ministry of Defense . In 1990 Zimmer was transferred to Bruchsal , where he served as Head of Logistics (G4) in the 1st Airborne Division under the command of Major General Fritz Eckert until 1992 . Here he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1991 . From 1992 to 1993 the US General Staff training followed in Fort Leavenworth , Kansas . Back in Germany, Zimmer was also employed as Head of Logistics (G4) at the German Share and Division Chief Exercises (G4) at the V. US Corps in Frankfurt am Main and Heidelberg . Then in 1994 Zimmer became commander of the paratrooper battalion 314 in Oldenburg .

After this assignment he was transferred to the Army Support Command in Koblenz in 1997 as G3 and Head of Division II 1 (3) , where he served under the command of Rainer Fell until 1999 . From 1999 to 2001 Zimmer was Head of Department I in the Army Materials Office in Bad Neuenahr and was promoted to Colonel in 2000 . In 2001 he finally returned to the Federal Ministry of Defense, where he was first employed as Head of Division II 4 in the command staff of the Armed Forces Base (FüSKB II 4) and, after the FüSKB was integrated into the management staff of the armed forces, as Head of Division IV 5 (FüS IV 5).

Service in the rank of general

On December 14, 2006 Zimmer received his second troop command at Logistics Brigade 1 in Delmenhorst . On March 10, 2008, he was appointed Brigadier General . In June 2010 he handed over the command to Volker Thomas and switched to the command staff of the armed forces in Bonn as Head of Staff Department IV (FüS IV). There he followed Peter Bohrer , who, as Chief of Staff, took over the management of the management staff. On November 1, 2011, he followed Günter Schwarz as Managing Director of HIL GmbH in Bonn. From June 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017, he was in command of the Bundeswehr logistics school. He handed this command over to Brigadier General Stefan Lüth and retired after 43 years of service.
