Comedy Winterhuder Fährhaus
The comedy Winterhuder Fährhaus is a private theater in Hamburg . It is located in Winterhude on Hudtwalckerstraße, corner of Winterhuder Kai, directly on the Alster . The theater was founded in 1988 by Jürgen Wölffer. The comedy Winterhuder Fährhaus is the only Hamburg theater to consistently stand for metropolitan entertainment theater and tabloid comedies.
history
Today's Komödienhaus stands on the site of the historic Winterhuder Fährhaus , which was built in 1854 by the coal merchant Carl Friedrich Jacobs as a residential building with a coal shed. On the opposite side of the street, passengers who wanted to go on a trip with the Alster steamer were often waiting . Since there was only a primitive jetty and no way to protect himself from wind and weather, Jacobs was sometimes asked whether it was possible to wait for the ship in his rooms. So the coal trader applied for a concession to run a "fine economy". In 1867 the building came into the possession of the manager of the lodge house on the Drehbahn. The "Fährhaus" became an attractive excursion destination, which from 1876 also had permission to offer dance events. Around 1890 a new Art Nouveau hall was built. With changed ownership and programs, it was an institution in Winterhude and all of Hamburg as a pub, excursion and dance club, as a cultural center for meetings, conferences and celebrations. In 1979, after almost 90 years, the so-called "second" Winterhuder Fährhaus had to be demolished. The wooden posts on which the ferry house stood had rotted away in the wet ground on the Alster. The builder and landlord Uwe Spranger planned to rebuild the “third” Winterhuder Fährhaus as a multi-purpose house. After a meeting with theater director Jürgen Wölffer, however, he was immediately taken with the idea of making a theater out of it. The theater was designed by the architect Peter Schweger . It was placed on 750 concrete piles, which should give the building a solid foundation for well over 90 years. It has a large hall with 586 seats and a small hall with 103 seats. The first director Rolf Mares gave up the management of the Hamburg State Opera in August 1988 and took on a new challenge with the development of the comedy Winterhuder Fährhaus. After eleven years, Rolf Mares handed over his post to Michael Lang in 1999, who headed the comedy until August 2017. He was succeeded by Britta Duah , who previously headed sales for the comedy Winterhuder Fährhaus. In 2017 Jürgen Wölffer initially handed over the artistic direction to his son Martin Woelffer, until in January 2020, as in 2004 in Berlin, the management was also handed over to Martin Woelffer.
program
The opening took place on September 2, 1988 with the piece Stormy crossing of Tom Stoppard instead. The program spans a wide range from the cheerful boulevard , to modern and classic comedies, to folk plays and comedies.
In the comedy Winterhuder Fährhaus, at least six productions (main pieces) are played en suite for six to nine weeks per season. Since the 1990/1991 season, the comedy Winterhuder Fährhaus has been one of the first Hamburg theaters to play all year round without a summer break. The pieces are conceived and realized together with the comedy stages in Berlin. The aim is to be able to show the productions on two stages (plus tours), if possible, in order to spread the production costs over several houses. Only in this way is it possible to run a theater without subsidies with a large number of well-known actors in an exposed location. There are numerous stars from film and television such as Tanja Wedhorn , Saskia Valencia , Nina Bott , Barbara Wussow , Marion Kracht , Nora von Collande , Herbert Herrmann , Walter Plathe , Marek Erhardt , Oliver Mommsen , Jochen Busse , Hugo Egon Balder , and Bürger Lars Dietrich and much more there regularly on stage.
As part of the Komödie-Extra, the program is supplemented by special events from the fields of literature, music and cabaret, at which established greats as well as young up-and-coming artists perform. There is also family theater by Christian Berg , Germany's best-known specialist in this field.
