Wissenbach is a district of the municipality of Eschenburg in the Lahn-Dill district in Central Hesse .
Geographical location
Wissenbach is located in the Dietzhölze valley in the northern Lahn-Dill district.
The place is framed by the Bomberg (508 m above sea level) in the west and the Eschenburg (589 m above sea level), which is sometimes also referred to as Eschenberg , in the east. The Eschenburg also serves as the namesake for the entire community, although it is already in the area of the city of Dillenburg . Wissenbach is the Eschenburg district with the largest proportion of forest.
The neighboring towns, starting from the north in a clockwise direction, are Eibelshausen , Eiershausen (both municipality of Eschenburg), Nanzenbach , Frohnhausen (both town of Dillenburg), Weidelbach (town of Haiger ) and Ewersbach (town of Dietzhölztal ).
history
Wissenbach was first mentioned in a document in 1290 under the name Wysenbach .
In 1768 the mining of slate began in the Batzbach mine . This mine was not completely shut down until 1997.
On December 20, 1773, a large part of the village burned down.
With the construction of the Dillenburg – Ewersbach railway line , Wissenbach received a rail connection in 1892. The line was closed in 1987 for passenger traffic and in 2000 for freight traffic.
The company " Manderbach Fahrzeugbau ", founded in 1899, manufactured trucks in Wissenbach from 1949 to 1956 .
In 1936 the Eschenburg Tower was opened on the Eschenburg . The 43 m high wooden observation tower was destroyed by American fighter-bombers on March 23, 1945 .
Territorial reform
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the Eschenburg community was founded on October 1, 1971 through the voluntary amalgamation of the communities Eibelshausen, Eiershausen and Wissenbach. Force state law were the communities Eschenburg Hirzenhain and Simmersbach and Roth of the former district Biedenkopf to advanced large village Eschenburg together . The entry into force took place on July 1, 1974 by the district president in Darmstadt. Local districts with local advisory boards and local councilors were established for all six districts .

The Wissenbacher Schützenverein can be found in the southern part of the village.
Buildings
The Protestant church was built in 1880/81 by church builder Ludwig Hofmann together with his brother Karl Hofmann.

A small museum for mining and telecommunications technology is housed in a former transformer station .
Economy and Infrastructure
Facilities
- Wissenbach has a multi-purpose hall , a clinic and a small shopping center .
- The old Wissenbach sports field is now used as a leisure facility.
traffic
The federal road 253 ( Dillenburg - Frankenberg ) leads directly through the village. Because of the high traffic load, the people of Wissenbach have wanted a bypass for many years. The distance to the Dillenburg junction on Autobahn 45 is about 7 km.
In addition, Wissenbach still had a rail connection via the Dietzhölztalbahn until 1987 . The railway line has been closed since 2001. However, there are efforts and an initiative that is committed to maintaining and reactivating the route for local rail and freight transport. The railway line is currently being cut on the southern section to Frohnhausen.
education
There is a primary school and a kindergarten in Wissenbach .
Secondary schools can be attended in Eibelshausen ( cooperative comprehensive school ), Frohnhausen ( secondary and secondary school ) and in Dillenburg ( grammar school ).
Companies
There are two business parks in the village. Several hundred people are employed in the companies located there. The largest industrial companies are Rittal and Giebeler .
Personalities
- The violinist, violist, concert director and radical pietist religious founder (Johann) Daniel Müller alias Elias / Elias Artista, born in the district of Wissenbach, comes from the district of Wissenbach . Wissenbach February 10, 1716, died not before 1786 (in Riga?).
- The NSDAP politician Richard Manderbach (1889–1962) was born in Wissenbach .
