Witches of East End is an American mystery series based on the bestseller of the same name by Melissa de la Cruz. The television series with Emmy Award winner Julia Ormond in the lead role was produced from 2013 to 2014 for the television channel Lifetime . She tells the story of a witch who has to reveal to her daughters that they come from a family of witches. It premiered in the United States on October 6, 2013, following Drop Dead Diva on Lifetime.

In November 2014, the series was discontinued after two seasons.

action

At first glance, the Beauchamp family looks like any other. But Matriarch Joanna and her sister Wendy are witches. Joanna hides this from her grown daughters Freya and Ingrid, who have been endowed with magical powers since birth. Freya and Ingrid always die between the ages of 20-30 after they discover their witchcraft powers and are reborn. However, this time Joanna has the hope that the two will have a long life.

Freya is a fun-loving young woman who works in a bar and has just become engaged to the wealthy playboy Dash Gardiner. But she is also drawn to the enigmatic Killian, Dash's brother. Ingrid, on the other hand, is shy and reserved and works as a librarian.

One day, Wendy turns up unexpectedly and brings her sister a warning. This warning forces Joanna to tell her daughters the truth: They are immortal witches. The idyllic life in the Hamptons is over, because an ancient enemy in the form of a shapeshifter wants to wipe out the Beauchamp family forever. So it's up to Freya and Ingrid to save their family and friends.

production

On July 19, 2012, Lifetime ordered a pilot episode based on the novel "Witches of East End" by Melissa de la Cruz. As a producer Maggie Friedman that even at the Witches series were Eastwick was involved, and Erwin Stoff committed. It was produced by the production company Fox 21.

At the end of January 2013, a first season with ten episodes was ordered for autumn 2013. Due to the satisfactory audience ratings, the station commissioned a second season at the end of November 2013, which consisted of 13 episodes.

In early November 2014, Lifetime announced the discontinuation of the series after two seasons and 23 episodes. Since the broadcast of the second season had already ended, the series ends with a cliffhanger .
