Wolfsgraben is a district of the municipality of Eckersdorf in the Bayreuth district in Upper Franconia ( Bavaria ).

geography

Almost a kilometer west-southwest of the wasteland is the Lindig hill ( 535  m above sea level ), and just under a kilometer southeast of the Burgstall hill ( 535  m above sea level ). A residential path leads to the B 22 near Busbach (0.15 km south).

history

Older documented mentions of the desert are missing. In the Geographical, Statistical-Topographical Lexicon of Franconia (1799–1804) by Johann Kaspar Bundschuh , which otherwise mentions every individual courtyard, there is still no entry for the place. The place is only mentioned by name in a description of the location of the municipality of Busbach from 1858. Therefore it can be assumed that the place was founded in the 19th century. The place name could indicate a facility that was used to catch wolves. A repopulation of deserted villages after the plague epidemics or the Thirty Years' War made such facilities necessary in order to push back the wolves and bears.

On May 1, 1978 Wolfsgraben was incorporated into the municipality of Eckersdorf as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
