In the southern part, there are several springs that once served to supply the Eckersdorf community with drinking water. history

The place name Hardt means mountain forest or wooded slope.

The former place name Hermesbühl is probably derived from the personal name Hermann and is related to the toponyms Hermannsbach and Hermannsberg in the vicinity. It is not clear who the name goes back to.

Up until the 20th century, the hamlet was accessible via a two-part system of paths. The southern older path opened up the two oldest properties, the northern one the two later ones. The latter was expanded by dividing the Rote Marter parcel to form the road to Geigenreuth and Bayreuth in the 19th century.

The Hermannsbach near the hamlet of Hardt is also popularly known as Gerbersbach, which is probably due to ownership in the 19th century. A tanner named Schlenck from the nearby town of Bayreuth owned the meadow land on the banks of the stream up to the point where it flows into the mistletoe.

Water from the springs in the southeast of the hamlet was piped to Bayreuth in the early 18th century and fed the margravial castle fountain until 1862.

Hardt has belonged to the political municipality of Eckersdorf since the municipal edict in the 19th century.
