history

The place was first mentioned in 1386 as "Reichhardsweißig". The defining word Hard is the Middle High German name for forest. Reichhard therefore means Reichswald . The basic word white means limit. Oberwaiz and Unterwaiz were therefore border villages on the Reichswald. In 1697 the place was first referred to as "Oberwaitz".

With the community edict (early 19th century) Oberwaiz became a rural community , to which the places Schanz and Tröbersdorf belonged. It was under the administration and jurisdiction of the Bayreuth Regional Court and had an area of 5.305 km². On May 1, 1978, it was incorporated into the municipality of Eckersdorf as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

The listed forester's house serves as a leisure home for the Evangelical Reformed Church of Bavaria .
