Schanz is a part of the municipality of Eckersdorf in the Bayreuth district in Upper Franconia .
geography
North of the hamlet rises the Stockbrunnenbach, which is a right tributary of the Dühlbach . The Black Bach, a left tributary of the Feilbrunnenbach, which flows into the Seitenbach on the left, rises 0.5 km west of the village. A community road crosses the B 22 to Windhof (0.8 km west) or the B 22 (0.2 km south-east).
history
The place was built by Georg Wilhelm von Bayreuth (1678-1726) as a ski jump , was originally called Wilhelmsburg and served the military for training purposes. Nothing remains of the military installation today; courtyards were built in its place.
With the Gemeindeedikt (early 19th century) was the site of the Rural Municipality Oberwaiz assigned. On May 1, 1978 this was incorporated into the municipality of Eckersdorf as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
