Quasi and Quasi was an American sitcom shown on the Nickelodeon television network, starring Drake Bell and Josh Peck. Both stars had already played roles in The Amanda Show, as had Nancy Sullivan, who played their mother in the show. Jonathan Goldstein played their father, and Miranda Cosgrove played their little sister. Reruns of Drake & Josh are now currently appearing on Nickelodeon and The N.

Summary

Drake and Josh focuses around the life of Drake Parker and how his mom gets married to Josh's dad, eventually leading Josh Nichols to becoming stepbrothers with Drake. They get in many wacky, crazy, or even frightening adventures together, realizing how great being brothers has been for them in the long run.

Characters

Drake Parker (Drake Bell)

Drake is portrayed as a somewhat simple, cool, lucky, and popular 16-year old person, putting little thought into his decisions. He plays guitar in a band which throughout the series has had many different members, with Josh now acting as manager. Throughout the series, Drake has had many girlfriends. Drake is also the older brother of Megan and occasionally tends to get a little over-protective of her like in "Megan's First Kiss." He is also a very poor student, having little common knowledge on subjects such as geography (for example he does not know where either Vietnam or Switzerland are, does not know that New Jersey is named after the Channel Island of Jersey-"Why is it called New Jersey if they never had a plain old Jersey?", does not know that Africa is not in Europe, and he believed Rome to be in Romania. He also mispronounced South America as "South Ah-ma-reek-ah"), although while Drake mispronounced America in that episode, in an earlier episode, he pronounced the word correctly.

Drake is also a musician with his own band. He is shown to have played guitar, and occasionally the drums. He enjoys other artists music as well. It is revealed in the episode "Battle of Panthatar" that Drake is a big Beatles fan after acquiring the Abbey Road album signed by all four Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr). When asked by Josh to give it to Thorton as a Birthday present he replies by saying " No! Dude I love this album more than I love myself! Josh: Dude... Drake: Ok maybe not more than myself, but I love this album a lot!" In Drake and Josh Go Hollywood Josh becomes Drake's new band manager after his old manager got him a gig at the retirement home. Drake's real life song, "Found A Way" is played in the opening credits of the show.

Drake has a poor relationship with his English teacher, Mrs. Hayfer, who totally hates him and reminds him of this frequently. He also has a reputation as something of a prankster; having put squirrels in Mrs. Hayfer's car after using a wire hanger to break into it in the episode "The Wedding", but this incident was never seen. It is because of this, perhaps, that Mrs. Hayfer hates Drake, for she is the first person to blame him whenever trouble arises in the classroom. He is also very arrogant and self-centered, and most of his interaction with Josh was spent either undermining, blackmailing or bullying him. Though as often as he takes advantage of Josh, he is also shown to do unselfish acts for his brother, mostly after he'd already caused Josh some distress. He is also known to do crazy, idiotic and abnormal things, such as shooting real golf balls in their room, and never shows the slightest bit of apology if it damages something of Josh's. Once, in the episode "Dr. Phyliss Show", when Drake damaged Josh's lava lamp, he retaliated by cutting the strings of his guitar. He is very similar to the Friends Character Joey Tribbiani in many ways due to his charm with women and somewhat lack of intelligence. According to some of his girlfriends, he is what Josh calls "great kisser." Once to get his old girlfriend back he set up another date with a girl named Hot Liza to make his old girlfriend Tori jealous. He also mentions he has had over 74 girlfriends.

Josh Nichols (Josh Peck)

Usually in the form of actor Josh Peck imitating Jason Alexander's George Costanza or Marlon Brando's Don Corleone, sometimes even Jim Carrey. 17-year old Josh Nichols is the victim of many unlucky events, such as his bike burning in "Helicopter." He is usually the sensible one, who was often taken advantage of by Drake and was portrayed as a nerd with little luck with girls and an interest in science during the first and second seasons. Josh has a habit of questioning or arguing against someone's (usually an adult's) order and then after a stricter call, he immediately obeys. The only real girlfriend he had was Mindy Crenshaw, who also shared his interests, while she is usually sarcastic toward Drake (who pretends Mindy isn't there). Apparently, he has a large head, which is why some people (including Megan) began mentioning, either by regularly identifying him or making fun of him. Josh is known to be a dork which Drake pointed out in "The Dr. Phyllis Show." Examples of this are him making weird noises, him putting on his underwear after his pants (as seen in the episode "Girl Power") , and squealing. can be incredibly sarcastic toward Drake as seen in "Vicious Tiberius" saying that they "just opened" New Jersey. In "Football", it is revealed he is a Spanish expert (for example he knows Ecuador is Spanish for equator, referring to its location.) During seasons 2-4, he often repeated words for emphasis. Josh is also known to like churros (a fried Mexican pastry) and will go to great lengths to get one. In the episode "Steered Straight", Josh was tempted by Drake to use fake identification to get one. Josh's first kiss was with a girl named Susan, seen in Believe Me, Brother, the second episode of the show, who was also Drake's girlfriend at the time. Josh is very paranoid about Megan pulling pranks on him. In the episode "First Crush", Josh states oranges gives him the acid reflux, but in "Pool Shark", Drake states in a persuasive voice, "You like oranges". He also is a big fan of Oprah Winfrey (whom he accidentally hits with his car in "Josh Runs into Oprah") and Henry Doheny. Video games and magic tricks are also some of his interests. He can play the harmonica as seen in "Blues Brothers", "The Gary Grill" and "Alien Invasion". In Drake & Josh Go Hollywood, Josh wheezes when Milo and his crony chase him and Drake, which probably means Josh has asthma or simply because actor Josh Peck does.

Megan Parker (Miranda Cosgrove)

14-year old Megan Parker is Drake's sister and Josh's step sister. She continually pulls stupid pranks on Drake and Josh, and enjoys seeing them suffer. She usually calls her two brothers "boobs" as a way of saying they're dumb. At one point, Megan gets a pet snake named Robert in "First Crush", possibly a reference to Jake "The Snake" Roberts. Initially, her plans were simple and childish; however, they got much more clever and sophisticated as the show progressed. By the final episodes, she was frequently seen using an impressive variety of high-tech gadgets (in Sheep Thrills, she uses a boombox that can shoot paintballs). She plays the oboe, but has only been seen playing it at Helen's wedding in Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp. Just for that, her brothers call her "EVIL!!" like in The Storm. Although Megan causes the most trouble her brothers run into, her parents believe that she could do no wrong, almost invariably taking her side over her brothers'. One example of this is when Megan purchases a sheep on the Internet, and when they get caught, her parents don't believe that an 11 year old girl could buy a sheep online. During season four, she seems to have grown up and started to wear make-up. She numerously upsets Walter because of her preferential treatment to Bruce Winchill, Walter's competition. She may be a sadist, because she has stated that she gets a "warm fuzzy feeling" from tormenting Drake and Josh. At one point, she hired an assistant named Tyler to pull pranks on Drake and Josh. She can get annoyed when other people upset her brothers as seen in "Mindy's Back" because that's her job. Deep down, she loves her brothers but as soon as she shows it, she can change affections in the blink of an eye. However, in the episode "Megan's First Kiss" the boys earned Megan's trust after they proved that her boyfriend was cheating on her. Afterward, she thanked them for what they did, then before she left, she kissed them both on the cheek and said "I love you guys".

Walter Nichols (Jonathan Goldstein)

Walter is Josh's father, and Megan and Drake's stepfather, a meteorologist who is often wrong about the weather. Walter is often clumsy, out of date, even seemingly empty-headed (for example, he believed Titanic to be "just a movie" and not real, thought the word touché to be pronounced 'toosh', and thought the word capiche to be pronounced capise). As a result, he lacks the respect of Drake and Megan. Many people forget who he is, even if they've seen him many times, like Helen. Like Josh, he is the victim of many unlucky things, such as being slapped, yelled at, laughed at, being mocked, and so on. Walter often is laughed at or insulted for his apparent boring or wrong weather forecasts. Everybody in the family (except Josh) calls him by his first name, Walter. Audrey and Megan both watch Walter's competition on Channel 12, Bruce Winchill. This upsets Walter so much that at times he orders his family not to mention his name in the house. One example of this is "Vicious Tiberius." In "The Affair", it is revealed that he is allergic to cumin.

Audrey Parker-Nichols (Nancy Sullivan)

Audrey is the mother of Drake and Megan and the stepmother of Josh. She, too, upsets Walter because of her preference to Bruce Winchill. She is usually telling the boys to try not to be so stupid. Because Walter is unable to discipline Drake and Josh, she usually has to punish the boys. Her name, never mentioned on the show, appears only on the Nick.com webpage. She, along with Walter, always believes Megan instead of Drake and Josh, even when they are telling the truth. It is unknown what her profession is or even if she works, as her job is never mentioned throughout the series.

Recurring characters

Friends of Drake & Josh

Craig and Eric are two stereotypical "nerdy" honor students that are always being exploited by Drake and Josh, mostly due to Drake's hare-brained schemes and how he mixes their names up like in The Storm and Alien Invasion (when Eric helped them with the alien prank). The character of Eric was introduced (shown in "Pilot" before Josh and Buck fought) before the character of Craig and has made more appearances in the show than Craig. Eric looks "nerdier" than Craig, wearing a tucked-in button-up shirt, thick glasses, and pens in his pocket. The first episode they are seen together is in "Pool Shark". It was revealed that in "Eric Punches Drake", that Eric is a pacifist and that Craig loves to sing. They appear a few times in Seasons 2 and 3, but appear more frequently in Season 4.
Introduced as Josh's rival at school and eventually his girlfriend. Though they break in Season 4's "Mindy Loves Josh" up in the beginning of Season 4, they get back together in Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp. Mindy also made an appearance in the episode "Little Sibling" when Josh said, "You know what? Hang out with Sammy all you want. I'm goin' to Mindy's." She frequently reminded Josh about beating him in the science fair for 5 years in a row. In fact there are two different episodes, "Mindy's Back" and "Mindy Loves Josh", airing a science fair, the later episode where she and Josh (then, Boyfriend/Girlfriend) actually start out working on a project together, although Josh won the science fair in "Mindy Loves Josh". She is first seen in "Honor Council", and last seen in "Dance Contest", which is also the final episode in the series.
Trevor Wilson is one of Drake's friends, who appears to be even more unintelligent than Drake. His only appearance is in "Dune Buggy" but he is mentioned a lot throughout the rest of the series. Trevor's voice can be heard in Season 4's "Josh Runs Into Oprah", but no one is sure if Taran Killam voiced him or not.

Premiere employees

Helen is the manager at The Premiere Galleria, a movie theater where Josh (and formerly Drake) has a job. She is known for her intimidation factor, due to her loud voice and orders for her employees. She adores Drake but has a dislike for Josh, despite his hard work, though she does show a lot of affection for him in hard times, like in Blues Brothers, when he embarrassed himself on Walter's weather program. Helen usually tells Gavin to tell Josh to do something gross, like clean a filthy toilet, but Gavin always ends up doing it himself instead. She first appeared in "Movie Job" and made a final appearance in the movie Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp in which she also gets married. Though Yvette Nicole Brown plays Helen normally, Frances Callier filled in for her and portrayed her in the episode "Little Diva".
"Crazy" Steve is an employee at The Premiere movie theater. He is hard working and pretty calm at times, that is, until someone (usually Josh) criticizes his work or does something he dislikes, and that is when he goes crazy. Once, in Drake and Josh: Really Big Shrimp, Steve blamed Josh for eating his enchilada. On Mondays, he goes particularly crazy, but calms down when She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain is sung and he gets a drink of milk (usually served warm). No one has an explanation why the song calms him down. He wears his uniform even when he's not at work, as seen in the season 4 episode 'The Storm'. His father sent him to "Fat Camp" as a child, which means Steve was overweight. He was first seen in "Movie Job" and made an appearance in "We're Married", but became a regular recurring character in Season 4. In "Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp' his psychiatrist tells him he is only allowed to get angry four times a day and the times are secret. In "The Storm," it is revealed that he loves watching Dora the Explorer.
Gavin has a mullet-like haircut (in Season 4's "Who's Got Game" he got a perm) and is always being told to tell Josh to clean something unusual in the theater. He then eventually cleans up the mess himself - his response (and catchphrase) being "I got it". He also has a crush on Audrey, who is Drake's mom and Josh's stepmom. He also made an appearance in "Theater Thug." He can apparently get away with anything at work, like taking a nap on the roof, in "Helen's Surgery." He first appeared in "Driver's License" and made a final appearance in "The Storm", in which he also does an offstage farewell.
Leah is the female Asian employee at The Premiere movie theater who appears in Seasons 3 and 4. She seems to get along well with Josh, but seems to be afraid of Crazy Steve. In one episode, Crazy Steve, Josh, Eric, and Craig have a discussion about the difference between a hoagie and a submarine.

Teachers

Mrs. Alice/Linda Hayfer is Drake and Josh's English teacher. She adores Josh, due to his hard-working personality in class, but loathes Drake very much, because of his constantly poor efforts in class, laziness, and lack of attitude in class; her catchphrase being "I hate you, Drake", with Drake responding, "I know." It seems her annoying daughter Kelly was dating Drake without her knowledge and she threatens Drake not to hurt her daughter. Her husband also makes an appearance in "Little Sibling". She first appeared in "Mean Teacher" and made a last appearance in "Vicious Tiberius", which reveals that she's also a stand-up comedian. It was also revealed that she was once the only teacher to give Mindy Crenshaw a B on her transcript, leading to Crenshaw becoming enraged and consequently putting her car in her classroom and framing Drake, but later it was discovered she had done it.
Mr. Roland is Drake and Josh's 11th Grade chemistry teacher. He is an extremely strict teacher and, if you are late to his class you are not welcome in his class. Once in "Josh is Done", thanks to his brother Drake, Josh was late for the exam so he had to take a make-up exam on Saturday at 6:00 AM and had to be marked down one letter grade. However, Josh got every question right on the exam, and was so impressed Mr. Roland didn't mark Josh's grade one letter down. He does not care for his students personal issues (except when Drake apologized for being a bad brother). He appeared in Josh is Done and Eric Punches Drake.

Others

Dr. Jeff Glazer lives across the street from Drake and Josh. He is always called on whenever a serious emergency happens at their house. Although he seems kind during the medical procedure, he is always charging a ridiculously high bill for his services (he once charged $100 for diagnosing a sheep as pregnant after she had her baby, and an extra $50 not to tell Drake and Josh's parents). He first appeared in "The Bet", when Drake got a rash, and last appeared in "Sheep Thrills".
  • Bruce Winchill
Bruce Winchill is a weather-man who works for Walter's competition's weather station. He is never seen on the show, but is mentioned from time to time. He is described by Megan and Audrey as having good-looking hair and is hated by Walter so much that at times he orders his family never to mention his name in the house. Walter lost the Weather Man Award at the "News-ies" to him, because Winchill's forecasts were 100% accurate, compared to Walter's, which are 0-99%.
Drew was Josh's temporary friend and described by Josh as Drake's doppelganger. With Jerry, Drake's friend (see below), they made a TV show, Drew and Jerry, which is obviously a spoof of Drake and Josh. He plays the saxophone and shares all of the same qualities as Drake. Like Drake, Drew has a band. His only appearance is in "Drew and Jerry."
Jerry was Drake's temporary friend. With Drew, Josh's friend (see above), they made a TV show, Drew and Jerry, which is obviously a spoof of Drake and Josh. He is a professional magician, enjoys dancing, and shares all of the same qualities as Josh. Jerry performs at the Magic Palace every Tuesday. His only appearance is in "Drew and Jerry."

Guest stars

  • 1Biggs guest starred in the episode "The Gary Grill", but died in May 2004 before it premiered. The episode was dedicated in his memory.

Drake & Josh has taken place in many areas of San Diego, but here are a few of the most common ones:

Drake & Josh's House

This is the house where Drake, Josh, Megan, and their parents live. From the information given by the show, it is a two story house, has a kitchen, a large living room, more than one bathroom, four bedrooms (Drake & Josh's room, Megan's room, their parents' room, and a guest room), a garage and more. It is used in every episode. The interior of Drake and Josh's room also changes between Seasons 1 and 2. This house is also noted to be the same house where "Full House" was shot. The interior was changed around, and the outside backyard has the same yardlength and same white picket fence. You can also tell by the front inside of the house that it is the same set.

The Premiere

The Premiere is the fictional movie theater/cafe, and local teen hangout where Josh works. The first episode it was seen was "Movie Job" when Crazy Steve called Josh a punkhole. He got very crazy and quit, Josh took his place. The manager is Helen Ophelia Dubois-Baxter, and the assistant manager is Josh Nichols. There are a few other noted employees including: Gavin, Leah, and Crazy Steve. The Premiere is featured in many episodes, and is first seen in the episode 'Movie Job'. The view of a theater from the outside can only be seen in a few episodes such as "Who's Got Game" and "Megan's First Kiss". Next to The Premiere, in the same complex is Schneiders Bakery, Dan Schneider's production company. The building gets burned down at the end of "Really Big Shrimp".

Belleview High

This is the fictional school Drake & Josh attend and is used in many episodes. One noted teacher there is Mrs. Hayfer, Drake & Josh's English teacher, who at one point accused Drake of stealing and putting her car in her classroom. Another teacher was the tenth grade History teacher (as seen in Guitar). His name was never mentioned . Belleview Middle (Megan's school) is also in this school, as learned in "Megan's First Kiss" and "Megan's New Teacher." Drake Bell and Josh Peck were not actually attending High School when this was filmed, as they are now both 21 years old (Drake Bell graduated from high school early while Josh Peck received his GED).

San Diego Mega-Dome

This is the fictional stadium/arena/auditorium that often holds big shows like "Zero Gravity Live" and "Blaine Darvy's Magic Show" and "The RockShock" It is first seen on the inside in the episode "Grammy" when Drake goes to the "RockShock". It is seen again from the inside in "Guitar" when Drake and Josh go to see "Zero Gravity Live". The final episode in which it was seen from the inside was in "Little Sibling" when Josh takes Sammy to see "Blaine Darby's Magic Show", and you first get to see the seating in this episode.

Movies

Drake & Josh Go Hollywood
Drake and Josh are left at home after their parents go on a cruise. They are told to bring Megan to the airport to visit her friend in Denver, but accidentally send her on a flight to Los Angeles. They go to Hollywood to get her back, and end up stopping a multi-billion dollar heist. The movie aired on January 6, 2006, and, according to TV Guide, it became the highest rated program on all of cable during its opening week.

Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp
Spin City Records is wanting to sign Drake for their label. He is on the road to fame and fortune, but Josh's inexperience as a manager leads him to sign the contract without reading it (having been drooling over the really big shrimp), accidentally signing over creative rights for Drake's new song. Drake fires Josh, and a series of bizarre events follow. Meanwhile at the Premiere, Helen is getting married, so she gives Mindy Crenshaw the job as assistant manager, the job Josh was after for a long time. Later, Josh Nichols sneaks into Spin City Records and switches songs, which was against the law. This makes Drake a statewide superstar and his song "Makes Me Happy" gets played at Helen's wedding and at the Super Bowl. The movie aired on August 3, 2007. However, it is also considered an hour-length episode because it is treated like a typical episode with story elements based on films. The movie's premiere brought in 5.8 million viewers.[1]

Books

A book series based on Drake & Josh has been published by children's publisher Scholastic since 2006. The books are generally based upon content from the show and essentially novelize two episodes of material, with one being a novelization of a feature length film.

Hidden Appearances and Notices

  • Throughout the 3 and 4 seasons, the laptops that have been used by Drake and Josh are modified iBook G4 and Powerbook G4 laptops manufactured by Apple Inc.. Usually these laptops are not working, and if the screen is shown, have a fake screen that normally has a Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista User Interface.
  • Starting in season 4, the modified laptops that Megan uses are the same that have been described now, but have a pear on the back of them (resembling the Apple logo. The laptops are plated with a color plate on the back so the normal Apple logo can not be seen, and a pear is applied to the plate. And in Zoey 101 - also created by Dan Schneider - they use the type of laptops with the pear on the back as well.
  • Throughout the seasons, as the camera moves around the outside of the Premiere Theater, another shop in the complex called Schneider's Bakery can be seen. Scheider's Bakery is actually a production company owned by Dan Schneider, the creator of Drake and Josh, Zoey 101, and iCarly. The production company is also the main production company that produces these three shows.
  • On Drake and Josh: Really Big Shrimp, movie titles on the top board on the Premiere show movie titles like "Thank You Molaro!" Steve Molaro is also on the production company. "Four Great Seasons!" meant that Drake and Josh had four great seasons of episodes, and that Season 4 would be the final season. "Lil Lisa 22" is referring to Michael Barret's girlfriend Lisa Burkens on Zoey 101. He commonly calls her "Lil Lisa" for short. 22 is unknown. This also may be a reference to creator Dan Schnieder's wife, Lisa Lillien. "February Fourth" most likely was the day that production of Drake and Josh started. The Article for the Episodes of Drake and Josh explains that Drake and Josh started production in early 2002, which probably means January, February, and March. "Robin and Joe" refers to 2 other producers and member of the "Schneider's Bakery" production team, Robin Weiner and Joe Catania. "Now She's Carly" is probably the most obvious one. This refers to Drake and Josh star Miranda Cosgrove stars in her own show now, iCarly, as the lead role, Carly Shay.
  • The layouts for the settings are incorrect. As the camera zooms in on the exterior of the house, the windows on the house where the kitchen set is located are too large, and the bedroom window on the outside is seen and there is a lamp shown in the window. No lamp is shown by the window of Drake and Josh's room. Also, when the camera zooms in on the exterior of the house you see an open porch. However, when they show people on the porch there is a white railing in front of the door.
  • In the episode "I Love Sushi" the factory is called "Ball and Vance". Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance played Lucy and Ethel in I Love Lucy, which the title of the episode parodies. Also, in another Drake and Josh episode, Josh says to Drake, "Sorry Lucy, Ethel ain't playing." which is also another reference to I Love Lucy.
  • In the earlier seasons of Drake & Josh, in their room, the door is facing the camera, whereas in the newer seasons, their door was mysteriously moved to the right.
  • In the episode "Theater Thug," Josh wears a hippie costume and refers to himself as Antoine. This is a reference to Kenan Thompson's popular character on All That.
  • "Drake & Josh" is perhaps the first Nickelodeon to show a character getting attacked on-screen where an earlier episode with Josh getting punched by a bully for wooing on a girl in school. It is also one of the few episodes that is filmed on location for certain scenes.
  • Earlier in the show, when drake goes to Mrs. Haffer's house to see his girlfriend, they open the door and show a red foyer. However, in the episode Vicious Tiberius, Drake and Josh take care of Mrs. Haffer's house and there is no foyer, the house's windows are placed differently, etc.
  • When the front of the Premiere is shown in many of the episodes there are names of movies that spoof real life movies such as "She's The Dude" (She's the Man) "Just My Truck" (Just My Luck) and "There's Something About Gary" (There's Something About Mary).
  • In the episode Drew and Jerry, Drake asks for some Mountain Fizz but Josh's dad says that Drew got the last of it. But, when Josh goes to get the rolls out of the oven there is a full bottle of Mountain Fizz right on the counter.
  • On the episode "The Demonator" the parks name is Mystic Mountain a spoof on "Six Flags Magic Mountain"
  • At the end of Really Big Srimp Josh was promoted to asisstant manager, but at the two next episodes he is seen wearing a red vest.
  • A few times throughout the series the veiwer can notice Drake wearing an "El Toro" shirt.
  • If you search getabus.org, it redirects you to nick.com
  • Derrick Wilson represents LAG just like Drake and Josh.
  • In the episode when Drake and Josh are making salsa, when the bomb "Megan Parker" (Miranda Cosgrove) put in the salsa, she and her parents are watching the first episode of Zoey 101
