The École Spéciale des Travaux Publics du Batiment et de l'Industrie (ESTP) is a private, non-profit engineering school ( grande école ) that specializes exclusively in construction. Face-to-face training has been taking place on the 6-hectare campus in Cachan , on the southern outskirts of Paris , since 2011 , and adult training since 2012 in Rue Charras in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. Since 2017 there is also a location in Troyes. The ESTP used to be on the Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris. The ESTP is a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE) . Since 1999 it has been associated with the national École Nationale Supérieure d'Art et Metiers (ENSAM). The ESTP is a member of the university network "Université Paris-Est".
Course offer
At the beginning of the 2017/2018 academic year, the ESTP had 2,700 students enrolled. Of these, 2,500 studied in the traditional courses that build on the two-year preparatory school " Classe préparatoire " (two years after graduation). In three more years they lead to a diploma. The following courses of study are offered by the ESTP:
- Civil engineer (infrastructure and civil engineering) - Travaux publics (TP),
- Civil engineer (structural engineering) - Bâtiment (B),
- Building services engineer - Génie Mécanique, électrique et efficacité énergétique (GME),
- Surveyor - Topography (T),
- Engineer for energetic construction and sustainability - Ingenieur en Genie Energétique de la Construction Durable (GECD).
In the third and last year of study, specializations are chosen in the five named fields of study. A total of 14 different specializations are offered. Examples are: structural engineering, engineering design of structures, real estate development, road construction, sustainable buildings and sustainable cities, civil engineering for nuclear uses, building physics, engineering in an international context or BIM.
As a private university, the ESTP charges tuition fees. In 2017, this amounted to 7,725 EUR for the engineering degree, between 8,050 EUR and 8,400 EUR for the engineering-architecture degree and 5,750 EUR for the training as a construction manager. About 30% of the students receive scholarships.
In the past few years, around 700 state engineering diplomas have been awarded annually in the five fields of study.
In addition, construction technicians (Conducteur de Travaux) are trained in a two-year course . A high school diploma (bac + 2) is required for admission.
Around 50% of the annual civil engineering graduates in France (with five years of training after high school) have studied at the ESTP. The ESTP has had around 45,000 graduates since it was founded.
Double degrees are offered with five French universities, in Germany with the TU Dresden and worldwide with 12 other renowned universities. There are partnerships with 67 universities and other institutions worldwide.

The École Spéciale des Travaux Publics was founded in 1891 by Léon Eyrolles on a private initiative with the aim of training generalist engineers for the then emerging industry. Since 1904 campus in Cachan with workshops, laboratory buildings and student dormitories. Location until 2011 at Boulevard St. Germain in Paris. 2011 move to Cachan after numerous new buildings were built there.
