Die Hard - A good day to die (original title A Good Day to Die Hard ) is an American action film from the year 2013 by director John Moore . It's the fifth part of the Die Hard series. As in the previous four films, the lead role of John McClane is again played by Bruce Willis . The film opened in many countries on February 14, 2013. However, the premiere took place on February 7, 2013 in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Russian politician Viktor Chagarin plans to kill prisoner Yuri Komarov if he does not hand over the secret files that incriminate him.
Criminal Investigator John McClane learns that his son Jack is in trouble in Russia because he carried out an assassination attempt on Komarov's behalf. John decides to help him. When he arrived in Moscow , he watched the courthouse fall victim to an attack on Komarov. Jack escapes with Komarov and is confronted by John. Jack accuses this of having brought the mission to failure. After a brief argument, they are followed by Alik and his assistants. You can in a safe house the CIA refuge where John learns that his son works for the CIA.
The building is stormed by Chagarin's men, with CIA agent Mike Collins dying. The trio makes their way to Komarov's daughter Irina, who, however, turns out to be a traitor. Komarov is taken hostage, John and Jack are tied up and beaten. However, they can break free and fled from Alik from a Mil Mi-24P "Hind" - combat helicopter fired. However, the two can finally escape via scaffolding and a building rubble tube, whereby Jack is injured.
In front of a well-known gangster meeting, they steal a limousine with numerous firearms in the trunk and drive to Chernobyl , where Alik, Irina and Komarov are. Once there, it becomes clear that there was never a file, but that it was always about weapons- grade uranium that Komarov had hidden here. Komarov kills Alik and informs Chagarin that the latter has been tricked into betraying Komarov. Thereupon Chagarin is killed by a hit man from Komarov.
John and Jack track down Komarov and arrest him, but he is freed by Irina and another henchman. Komarov and Irina want with the uranium in a Mil Mi-26 "Halo" - transport helicopter escape, but are pursued by the McClane. John manages to stop Irina's helicopter by throwing him off balance with the help of a truck that is fixed in the hold . Meanwhile, Jack kills Komarov by throwing him off the building, but is shot in the process. Irina, shocked by her father's death, tries to get revenge on both of them by destroying the entire building with the helicopter. She dies herself, while John and Jack can save themselves by jumping into a pool of water.
John and his son fly home to New York and are met at the airport by Lucy, John's daughter and Jack's sister.

Originally Noam Murro was to direct, but John Moore replaced him as he was busy with the sequel to 300 .
For the role of "Jack" McClane were loud Fox Studios actually first Liam Hemsworth , Aaron Paul , James Badge Dale and DJ Cotrona provided. In the end, however, Jai Courtney got the role.
Filming began on April 23, 2012 in Budapest . Other locations were Belgrade and Hajmáskér, a village in Veszprém County .
The film grossed $ 67,349,198 in America and $ 304,654,182 worldwide. This puts him in fifth place in the Die Hard series in America and brings up the rear so far. It reached number 3 worldwide. Possible continuation
A sequel was announced in 2015 and a script was worked out that would contain a storyline with a young John McClane in the 1970s. The titles given were Die Hard: Year One and McClane . In the meantime, 21st Century Fox announced the release around 2019/2020, but that date has been dropped and the project has been in development hell ever since .
