Aishwarya Rai
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or Aishwarya Bachchan (born as Aishwarya Rai ; Tulu : ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಾ ರೈ Pronunciation : [ ɛʃvərjɑː rɑːj ]; born November 1, 1973 in Mangalore , Karnataka ) is an Indian model and actress . She won the Miss World election in 1994.
Life and accomplishments
Aishwarya Rai was born in Mangalore to Krishnaraj Rai, a marine biologist, and Vrinda Rai , a writer. She has an older brother, Aditya Rai, an engineer in the merchant marine and co-producer of her film Nur Your Heart Knows Truth (2003).
After she was born, her parents moved to Mumbai . There she first attended the Arya Vidya Mandir High School in Santa Cruz , then for a year the Jai Hind University in Churchgate , then the Ruparel University in Matunga with the goal of being an architect.
During her studies, she started working as a model. In 1994 she took part in the competition for the Miss India and was second behind Sushmita Sen . Then she took part in the Miss World competition and won this title as well as the title of Miss Photogenic . She then interrupted her studies and spent the following year as the reigning Miss World in London. Now she started to model professionally. Soon afterwards I started acting.
She speaks several languages: Tulu , Hindi , English, Tamil and Marathi .
Aishwarya Rai was in a relationship with actor Salman Khan between 1999 and 2002 .
Aishwarya Rai has been married to Abhishek Bachchan since April 20, 2007 , who was also her film partner several times. On November 16, 2011, they became parents to a daughter.
Career as a model
Aishwarya has been photographed for many Indian fashion magazines, including the Indian Vogue . She is currently advertising internationally for L'Oréal Paris, De Beers Diamonds, Coca-Cola and Longines watches.
Career as an actress
Because of the public's interest for her Miss World title, she became an actress. Her debut was Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Iruvar (1997), which was a critical hit. Still, her early films were panned by the press. Her acting talent has been described as fake and wooden . She made her debut in Bollywood with Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya (1997), who was very successful. Other blockbusters include Taal (1999) and Devdas - flame of our love (2002).
In addition to her films in Hindi , Rai continued to star in Tamil films, such as Jeans (1998) or Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000). She became known all over India primarily for her jeans . In 2003 she starred in the Bengali film industry in Sand Grains in Eye, directed by Rituparno Ghosh . From the mid-2000s, Rai established herself as an international star in western film productions. In 2004, she was named one of Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World". The American news show 60 Minutes dedicated an episode to her and called her the "most beautiful woman in the world". A month later she visited the American talk show host David Letterman as the first Indian woman on his show. A wax figure of her is in London's Madame Tussauds wax museum.
In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
